We are planning on doing the deluxe DDP when we go in August. I was trying to figure out if the kids gets an appetizer since not every kids meal comes with one.
If you have done the DxDDP is there any places restrictions that surprised you?

We did the deluxe last year with our then 4 year old DD, and what we found was that you had two choices....either a choice of appetizer, entree and dessert off a kids' menu or a choice of kid's meals, which had a set appy, entree and dessert. Some places had both, while others just the set meals. Usually, if it was a place that offered a kid's menu, the appys were salad, or fruit or soup, and the dessert was a choice of sundae or cookie. The kid's meals were usually the same type of items, but because it was a set meal, you didn't get to pick and choose what you wanted (you may have been able to make substitutions....we just didn't ask).

Hope that helps!

Kids have to order from the kids' menu. The Disney kid's menus always have some sort of first course, but it is not what adults would think of as an appetizer - it is usually something like raw vegetables or fruit, a garden salad or a small cup of soup. Kids on the dining plan are never permitted to order appetizers from the regular menu.

not to steal for post but i have a ? also we have the deluxe plan also 3 adult 1 child so 3 adults will get a appatizer now my ? is are these regular sized appatizers for more of a individal serving ?

If you have the deluxe plan, adults may order any appetizer on the menu. Note that any appetizers listed as being "for two" may be ordered by two people only.

It depends, a salad or soup is usually considered an app, which is single serving, but there are also apps like calamari, pot stickers which are large enough to share, however each person gets to order their own (unless menu specifies "for two"). We usually ordered different ones and split.

Thanks!
Any one else have real life experience with kids and the deluxe dining?

One of the reason i started this topic was relooking at the kids menu at some of the resturants; Here is Yak and Yeti
Dinner (Updated: 04/09)
Entree/Main Course

Kids Entrees - For ages 9 and under. A choice of a mini burger, chicken bites, vegetable lo mein, or an egg roll. All items served with choice of carrot sticks, applesauce cup, fruit punch gelatin or chicken fried rice. Add a kid-sized portion of milk or apple juice in a souvenir cup. Soft drinks or French fries available upon request. Ice cream sundae for dessert $1.49 extra. - $7.49
Lets say my DD want to get the lo mein and fried rice, does that mean that the fried rice is considered her appitizer?

It sounds like the fried rice would be considered her appetizer. Yak & Yeti is not a Disney restaurant and doesn't have the typical Disney kids menu. She would likely not be permitted to order an appetizer from the adult menu. I would guess that you would also not have to spend extra for the dessert as her meal includes dessert on the dining plan.

We ate at Yak and Yeti last year. My kids got chicken, fried rice, and something else. They did not get an appetizer. There were 3 adults and 3 appetizers was MORE than enough for all of us!

Our kids never had something come out with the appetizers unless they got a salad or soup.

I just posted on another thread that this isn't the case. The waiters told me 2x last week that while it says for 2 that it is only 1 credit. I don't know how long this will continue, but we unintentionally found this out last week.

And I had one server tell me last week that it WAS only allowed for 2. It looks like it's going to depend on where you are and who you ask. I would personally caution anyone who hopes to get an appetizer for 2 for one person not to count on it.

We did the deluxe dining plan last month. Two of my kids were on the adult plan, my 7 yr old was on the child plan. The only place we ate all week that let her order an appetzer from the adult menu was Raglan Road. She and I ordered a "for 2" appetizer there-those batter dipped cocktail sausages. The server was very clear that if we wanted an appetizer for 2, that 2 people would have to order it and split it. My DH and one of my sons ordered the ribs for 2 and my other son ordered a single appetizer-chicken kabob type things.

Every other place we dined at had kids appetizers. Chicken noodle soup was a big favorite of hers-lots of places had it. There was a lot of kids salads with ranch dressing veggies and dip. Some places had other types of soups, like potato leek.

What was new this year for us was that the kids complete meal (in the Mickey shapped plate) could be split up and subs could be made. For example, we could get the pizza, sub fries for the veggies or salad, and sub ice cream for the apples-she did this at Sci-Fi for lunch. Every place we ate told us this. Last year we were not allowed to make any subs if we got the complete meal. At Coral Reef for lunch she got soup, the pizza, and make your own sundae. So, it was more flexible this year for us.

Oh, I agree. I wasn't expecting it then and won't in the future. We were shocked by. We didn't even ask the first time. The waitress insisted the Nachos for 2 was only one credit. I even questioned her about a second time. The second time we ordered mussels for 2 somewhere, I think Brown Derby and didn't notice it was for 2 until later and the waiter said it was only one credit after we asked him about it. I later told my DH that we must be wrong and these waiters were right and thenl I read the threads here. I think it just matters where you are and who your server is.

Kids' meals are a little weird. The brochure says "appetizer", entree, and "dessert". But in most places, it's really entree plus choose 2 from a variety of side type items and desserts. If you want to get 'em the carrots & celery sticks and the fruit cup, go ahead. We had no problem at all mixing and matching any two non-entree items from the kids' menu to go with the entree.
