Appetizers instead of entrees on DDP

I do know that appetizers are not included on the regular Disney's Dining Plan. However, I wonder whether it is allowed to cover an appetizer with the DDP whether we don't order an entree. For instance, if you go in a regular table service restaurant and would prefer to eat a salad from the appetizer section of the menu instead of a steak, is that possible? If you use 2 TS credits for a meal at a signature restaurant, can you do the same thing?

Of course, for guests, it is not the best way to make the most of a dining plan, but it is a deal for the company, so I hypothesize that it is possible. However, I realize that technical limits (i.e.: the design of the computer system used by cast members to register each order) may also prevent that.

I just need to know whether it is possible or not. That information will be useful to compute some values in my review!

No. They won't swap apps for entrees 9/10 times, especially places not owned by Disney.

The non Disney owned restaurants will not let you order an appetizer instead of an entree because they are reimbursed by Disney according to the rules of the Dining Plan. Entrees must come from the entree section of the menu. If it is an appetizer on their menu, they would not be reimbursed for the item. Many restaurants, however, have entree sized salads on their menu that you could order.

But of course on the deluxe plan, you can just order the appetizer and skip the entree. We did this several times. I just wasn't hungry enough for an entree so I had appetizer and dessert. Most of the time, the CM tried to say, "but its included in your plan" but I didn't want it so I didn't order it. (and while we bumped the gratuity up a bit, we still saved on paying the full gratuity on an entree that we did not want).

I know it's probably against the rules, but my wife has had luck getting an app served as an entrée. In fact, I don't think she's ever been denied. But YMMV.

The OP was asking about the regular dining plan (entree, dessert and non alcoholic fountain beverage) which doesn't include an appetizer. Because the app is included in the DxDDP you could skip the entree, but this won't automatically work for the OP.

We have been denied when we asked. At the non-wdw owned places it makes sense because they want their maximum reimbursement. At the wdw owned places I kind of felt like it was the server not wanting a reduced tip because we had 6 people even though we would tip extra.
