Appetizer Questions

Are the appetizers in most restaurants at Disney meant to be shared or single serving only? We are not going on a dining plan and will just pay as we go. I keep reading about so many people ordering 3 or 4 appetizers for the table and I was not sure if that was only because the appetizer per person is included for those on the dining plan.

I assume that somewhere like CG would be single serving, but would what about somewhere like Kona?

Thanks!

Appetizers are single servings, however you are definitely allowed to share it. The servings are big enough to eat with other people.

At Kona for example, the sticky wings appetizer comes with 7 big wings, and a side of greens. You can easily split this among 2 people and leave room for the entree (which is pretty big). However there are only 4 pot stickers if you order that. I could eat that myself, I don't think that would be enough to share.

At CG, the Tuna three ways for instance, I think is more single serving. But their flatbreads... there's enough to share on that one.

Under the Dining Plan, each person using credits is allowed one appetizer, one entree, and one dessert. That's why you see each person ordering appetizers. You either use it or lose it... naturally you'd rather use it than lose it.

It does depend on the appetizer, like OogieBoogie said. We like to get a couple apps. to share among the table. We often make whole meals out of splitting various apps, like Tapas. The apps. always seem to be the most creative part of the meal.

DF and I definitely share. If we each had out own, we'd be too full for the entrees. However, we are doing DDP this trip, so we may be too stuffed! We shall see! :teeth:

It really does depend on what the item is. Obviously soup (like the Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup at Le Cellier) is for one person (it's a cup, not a bowl). The Grilled Beef Tenderloin Kabob at Le Cellier was just one strip/kabob and wouldn't be large enough for two.

Some are specified for 2 - like the Cobb Salad at Brown Derby (and, boy, was that GOOD!!!) - on the DDP, one person cannot get the cobb salad and one person get something else. (assuming 2 in the dining party) We had salad left over, so I'd say the Cobb Salad could actually feed 3.

HTH!

I was going to say.... we have not done the DDP in ages, but when we did, the appetizer could be an appetizer, a soup, or a salad.

I agree that it depends on what you get and where you get it. At WPC we got the spinach dip and spring rolls, they were both big enough to share. At Concourse I got the scallops, there were only 3 or 4, not really enough to share. On the other hand, DS got the onion rings and it was big enough to share but he wanted them all for himself. I was trying to think of some other appetizers we had while we were at WDW but my mind has just went totally blank. :sad2:

Overall though I would say that MOST are more a single serving size.

Thanks everyone! I'm just ate dinner but I'm hungry again reading some of the examples!!

Appetizers are usually my favorite part of the meal and we wanted to make sure we planned accordingly. Thanks! :goodvibes

We are on the DDP this trip. My DH and DD should be fine with it but my DS and myself are not the type to eat an appetizer, entree AND dessert all in one sitting every meal. My question is this.... do the restaurants allow you to take a "doggy bag" with either an appetizer or dessert in it?
Thanks

We don't do the dining plan either but believe me when I say that sharing one appetizer is more then enough for a normal appetite. If you and your spouse plan on each getting an entree then one appetizer to split should be just fine. I have yet to run into an appetizer that doesn't do two people weel if they are also getting an entree. I go with my mom to WDW and we have barely been able to split an appetizer, each get an entree and usually I just dessert as my mom is too stuffed by then. Unless you plan to gorge then don't worry about it! You will be full at meals end! LOL:!

I got the scallops at Councourse- there were two on the plate. I had no intention of sharing!!
