Is anyone confused about whether you get an appetizer with your table service meal on the basic or free dining plan? I have seen that you do and I have seen that you don't.

Does anyone know for sure?:confused3

When I called, the CM told me that I would NOT receive an appetizer with the Free DD Plan... I do believe DDP offers an appetizer still though... I'm sure someone with a definite answer will be along to help you soon as all this is still new to me... :)

The new plan for 2008 has changes from last year..the biggest are: no appie and no tips! :(

Free dining does not include appetizer nor tips. 1 snack, 1cs meal ,1 ts meal. per hotel night, per person. Pay the tip and for any appies.

Regular ddp does not include appetizer nor tips. 1 snack, 1cs meal ,1 ts meal daily. per hotel night. per person. Pay tip and any appies.

Deluxe dining plan includes 3 meal credits a night per person (cs or ts or use 2 for a signature restaurant.) Appies and desserts included but you still pay the tip. Deluxe also includes 2 snacks nightly (1 on regular ddp) and a refillable mug per person.

Some of the menus for children at TS restaurants have appetizers on them. Do they kids still get to choose an appetizer or do they just eliminate the appetizers for them also?

Thanks

I believe children still get an appy with their ts credit, regardless of whether it's the basic or deluxe plan. It's something to do with the way the new(er) kids' meals are.

Sometimes the kids' meals come with the appetizer, depending on the meal. That's OK with the basic DDP.

In all cases, the basic DDP does not get an appetizer in 2008. If you upgrade to the Deluxe dining, then you get an appetizer.

Kids meals still come with an appetizer on the regular dining plan. But its mostly carrot sticks, or a salad, or chicken noodle soup, something like that. The kids can't order appetizers off the regular menus.

Age 10 and over do not get a table service appetizer with the basic plan, which is the plan that is provided at no cost when you book free dining. Ages 3-9 get three courses; the children's menus are set up that way. They must order from the children's menu. Kids do not get to pick an appetizer off the regular menu on either plan.

10 and up do get appetizers on the deluxe plan. If you have booked a free dining package you can upgrade to the deluxe plan by paying the difference between the basic and deluxe plans: about $32 per night for adults, $10 per night for kids.

Neither plan includes tips.

If you book a price-fixed, family style all you can eat meal (for example, 'Ohana or CRT) that includes appetizer-type offerings, everyone gets those on either plan. The Fantasmic Dinner Package at Mama Melrose or Brown Derby appears to still include the appetizer even if you book it on the basic dining plan (because it is a package reservation).

if there's an appy we want (like crab cakes or lobster bisque) we'll just pay OOP (since they're no longer on DDP) - we don't eat these things at home and aren't going to do without on our one weeks' vacation a year....

Thanks for all the discussion! Do you think it is worth it to upgrade to deluxe with 9 & 5 year old girls? I just don't know if they will want to stop long enough to sit in a restaraunt for lunch or would be just as happy with CS for lunch and a pop tart for breakfast.

What have you guys done?

I found that the regular dining plan without apps. is still alot of food. We went in March and did the dining plan...paid out of pocket for two meals only (we went to a couple of signature places that took extra credits) and were stuffed everyday. It really is still more than enough food. If you really want a certain app. at a couple of meals, I would just pay for them out of pocket.

If you plan on going to all signature meals, it might be worth it. Otherwise, probably not. We paid for CRT because it seemed the smart thing to do based on the price and the fact that it took two credits and then one CS dinner at DTD at Earl of Sandwhich.

Thanks! I think we will probably just pay for anything extra that we want.

I doubt the girls are gonna care what they eat with everything else that is around them.

as someone else already posted...

if you book the fantastmic dinner package at Mama Melrose it is only 1 credit and you get and appetizer even if you are on the basic ddp.

we just got back...had the regular DDP last week. Cannot see how you could possibly eat everything on the Deluxe plan, or allow that much time for sit-down meals a couple of times per day! We are not small people, and never finished everything on one table service a day with no appetizers. Didn't finish most counter service offerings, either...the portions are very large.

Kids meals looked to be plenty of food, too (and yes, the "appy" on the little kids' meals is a fruit or veggie, not what most adults would call an "appy", and the "dessert" on a a lot of them is grapes or applesauce. For example, the kids' meal would be mac & cheese (entree), carrot sticks (appy) & grapes (dessert.) I know some kids were complaining that they were not getting an actual sweet for dessert, so some places seemed to allow substituting a cookie for the grapes.

I was under the impression that a number of the TS places had ice cream for children's desserts.

we have trouble eating all the food on the basic ddp... :faint:

1/2 the time we split counter services or table service because we are still too full from the previous meal :rolleyes1
