For the past 20 years my family has done a snack and movie night the night before Thanksgiving. Last year for DD HS graduation I bought one of those crockpots that have 3 small crocks. I have not used it since then. I am looking for ideas to utilize this.

I also would be interested in other ideas as well. I would like to add some variety to our usual pizza, chicken nuggets and chips.

You could put cheese sauce in one, taco meat in another and chocolate in the last for fondue.

Cheese sauce and taco meat could be used for nachos.

My brother did a warm crab dip, a warm spinach and artichoke dip, and a warm cheese dip and served it with tortilla chips, bread cubes, and wheat thins at a recent family gathering. With the 3 crocks, you could also change one of the above for a buffalo chicken dip or a chili cheese dip. It makes it much more fun with the chips:).

BBQ or grape jelly meatballs, little wieners in a sauce, hot cheese dip or buffalo chicken dip.

Every party I go to people always ask me to bring "my dip". When I come to the door they just grab the dip and run and yell Auntie Laura's dip is here...

soft cream cheese
sour cream
taco seasoning mix
salsa (strained)
tomatoes cut up small
purple onion cut up small
shredded lettuce - washed and dried
mexican cheese
cheddar cheese
black olives
jalapenos if desired

mix first two ingredients then add seasoning. Place on the bottom of a big dish. Then add the strained salsa and then the tomatoes, onions and lettuce. then put the mexican cheese on top and use the cheddar cheese for the edges. on top put the olives and jalapenos. It is delicious. Serve with taco chips

There are some great ideas on kraft.com

Last year for xmas I did a chil bar. It was a huge hit. Another tip I got is to do a potato bar. Have baked potatoes rubbed in salt and have bowls of cheese, sour cream, olives, broccoli - whateber you like.

taco bar too.

I agree with the other poster do the meatball and Jelly with chili sauce Yum.

How much of each do you use? Also does anyone have a good recipe for Buffalo wing dip?

Love all the ideas so far. Good thing we do appetizers on Christmas Eve as well so I can try out more thing.

Not for the crockpots:

Buffalo chicken potato bites

Bake chicken, add buffalo sauce and butter.
Blanch little potatoes (like fingerlings), until almost done. Cut in half, hollow out. Brush with butter, place under broiler to crisp (not hard). Add chicken, top with bit of blue cheese if desired (I used a smidge of cheddar as no one here likes bc). Place under broiler to melt cheese, toast edges. Drizzle with ranch dressing.

Potato chorizo bites

Blanch small red potatoes until just barely done (just until fork can just pierce the surface). Drain, cool, halve, and draw fork along the insides.
Toss with olive oil, oregano, salt and pepper. Toss into hot cast iron skillet (try to not let them touch each other). heat to sizzling, then put in 375 oven, turn every 10 minutes until very crisp and golden (about 30 minutes).
Cook chorizo sausages until done, drain and slice 3/4" thick. Place one sausage on to of each potato half (use toothpick to secure if needed). Squeeze a little lime juice over each, serve with avocados and salsa.

Fritos to dip It is so good and simple

Cream of Mushroom
Velveeta
mushrooms
broccoli
you can add onions, I don't like them in it, but my family does.

you can sauté the vegies first so they are soft, but not necessary

If you are looking to switch up the pizza try making "stuffed bread"

I make it from those pizza crusts you can get in the deli, one crust usually makes two loaves of bread.

Roll out the dough and put in large pepperonis, provolone cheese and some pepper salad (Pastene makes this in jars, find it by the Olives). Just fold over the sides and coat with a little olive oil and bake it like pizza, it's so easy and to die for!

I have one of those crocks. I love it!

I do meatballs in jelly/chili sauce, jalapeno chicken, and lil smokies in BBQ.

The meatballs I make small meatballs. You mix a jar of grape jelly or a can of cranberry sauce with a jar of chili sauce.

Jalapeno Chicken It is also a pseudo recipe. I never measure.

Shredded chicken (I shred a whole chicken)
A large container of sour cream
a bag of shredded cheddar (I shred an 8 oz block)
diced jalapenos
frozen chopped spinach (thawed and drained well)

Shred your chicken, add in the spinach, a few spoonfuls of the jalapeno (how much depends on how hot you like it), mix in the sour cream and add the cheese. I then heat it in the oven at 350 for around 20-30 minutes until hot.

For holidays/hosting events, I keep it hot in a crockpot. I serve with tortilla chips. We like the bowls. For Thanksgiving I make a double batch since the guys eat it up first. This freezes well too.

I have one of these too and always feel guilty because I don't use it. The last time I used it it had:

Velveeta and Rotel queso dip
Buffalo chicken wing dip
Meatballs with sauce made with brown sugar and London Pub steak sauce. (I grew up with my mom making these so I don't have an exact recipe and I can't find one online anywhere)

I just had a jalapeno dip this weekend that was delicious. http://www.tablespoon.com/recipes/jalapeno-popper-dip/4e24905f-b357-471e-97ab-248242b65165

My meatball recipe is this:

2 #'s gr beef.. 1 egg.. 1 lg onion (graded).. 2/3 c oatmeal
1 tsp salt.. 1/2 or 1/3 c water.

Mix and shape into small balls. Put in sauce

Sauce 1-10oz currant jelly (or grape)
1-12oz btl chili sauce
juice of 1/2 lemon.

Refrig or freeze

To serve bring to room temp...

Put in crockpot to keep warm

family favorite...

This is not a crock pot recipe, but one that I've made over the years.
If you don't mind baking them at the last minute, they are delicious!
I usually roll it into a loaf and slice before baking, but I'm sure shaping it into balls and throwing them on the baking sheet is probably easier.

HA' PENNY SNACKS
1 stick (1/4 lb.) butter
1/2 lb. grated Cheddar cheese
1/2 pkg. dry onion soup mix
1 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
Bring butter and cheese to room temperature; mix well. Add rest of ingredients and blend. Shape into 1-inch rolls, wrap in waxed paper or plastic wrap. Chill. Could even be frozen and then thawed until easy to slice.
Heat oven to 375 degrees, quick moderate. Slice 1/4 inch thick. Bake on ungreased baking sheet 10 to 12 minutes until slightly browned.

I've had one of those for years.

What I put in mine:

Sausage dip:
1lb cooked, drained, bulk sausage
1 8 oz block cream cheese, softened
1 can Rotel, slightly drained.

Heat up and mix. Eat with chips

Corn Dip
1 can corn drained(Mexi corn if you like a little more heat)
1 8oz block cream cheese softened
1 can rotel, drained slightly
8oz shredded cheese, I use the mexi mix

Heat and mix. Eat with chips

Pizza dip
1 8oz block cream cheese, softened and mixed with
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning mix
1 jar pizza sauce
8oz mozz cheese

Layered. Heat and eat with toasted bread rounds, break sticks or the like.

All of these also work in the microwave. Mix in a bowl, heat through and eat. We made the first two, packed them in cooler and took them on vacation. We heated them up and ate them in our room, while vegging after a long day.

Thank you to everyone for all the recipes. My family is looking forward to trying new things.
