Apparently They No Longer Make Sleeves!

I did some *light* shopping today. Looking for stuff for work for warmer weather. It is always at least 68 degrees in every office building I've ever been in. But you would not know this to look in the stores. Women are no longer allowed to wear sleeves. It doesn't matter if you are 82 years old--you will no longer wear sleeves.

I went in Marshall's first. They had 6 rows of "Tops". At least 4 of the racks were all sleeveless. Sleeveless blouses, sleeveless T-shirts, sleeveless sweaters. Then they had a rack of what appeared to be leftover sweaters from the winter season. Yep, they had sleeves and they were black, brown, and wool.

I did find ONE DRESS that had sleeves. It was a stretchy polyester knit thing that was somewhat cute on the hanger. I put it on to find out that it had the NEW Kimono style sleeves. When I put it on my 42 year old, still somewhat shapely body, I thought I looked a lot like Shelley Winters from the 1970s version of The Poseidan Adventure. YUCK.

Don't get me wrong, I see all the models in the magazines in these cute sleeveless tops. My DD wears all the cute sleeveless things. But this is not a good look for a 42 year old woman who hasn't seen the inside of a gym in 3 years, who is pasty white, does not tan, and is getting freckles on her arms. Not good at all....

:rotfl2: I am not laughing at you, but with you. I hate shopping, and things like this make it worse. I am in the same boat with you!

Come read my plus size clothing vent -- I was complaining about the exact same thing!

You really don't want to see a size 22 woman in all the sleeveless tops they have out now. What are these manufacturers thinking??? On the other hand, I didn't go sleeveless when I was a size 8 either.

I feel your pain. I am not a fan of the sleeveless top either. I have a pretty good figure but I hate my upper arms and I have no idea how to get them to look the way I want them to.

I've noticed this a lot lately in the family lines at Gymboree and CWD. I would love to get the whole family a matching shirt or wear a mother daughter outfit with my DD but everything for women is sleeveless. I do mean EVERYTHING! I am not a large woman but my arms are not tan at all and I look awful in sleeveless shirts. The only thing that comes close to sleevless is a sleeveless top with some sort of matching sweater. That will be perfecty in JULY! NOT!

It really ticks me off because I think they are missing the market.

I can relate here!! I would LOVE to wear sleeveless shirts, but my upper arms match those of Hulk Hogan!! Even when I lose weight (i'm 10/12) my arms are still not flattering. I went shopping yesterday and all the cute polos had those stupid little cap sleeves that are even less flattering than sleeveless!!

I'm moving to Alaska where sleeves are always in style!

I was just discussing this with my mom the other day. We were in a plus sized clothing store and almost every top was sleeveless. She was not amused :sad2:. My arms aren't big but I still prefer to wear short sleeves. To all the clothing manufacturers out there...

We want sleeves! We want sleeves! We want sleeves!

I refuse to wear tanks or skinny straps because when I stop waving my upper arms continue for at least another 5 minutes! I do get tans and will wear a tank in my back yard when gardening and NO ONE can see me...but in public, no way!

Oh, do even get me started on the little "baby cap" sleeves. Aarrrrggghhh. I absolutely LOVE the tight fitting polos. I cannot stand a "wide" shirt. But if you get the slim-fit polos, you also get that tiny banded sleeve that looks AWFUL on my upper arm. Looks great on my DD (14), but her arms are like little spaghetti noodles. They also look good on those cute little Chinese girls.

I've been watching, for several years, as the sleeve has become an endangered species in women's clothing. I think it is finally extinct this year. I could not even find a T-shirt today. I know I didn't go in a lot of stores, bu this is ridiculous.

I also went into Jones New York. Now they had some really, nice skirts that were around $80 each. Then they had the matching, sleeveless shell that was $49.00 each. And it was SOOO nice of them to include a matching sweater (for $80) or jacket (for $130) if you felt the need to cover up. Never mind that the shell was just a wisp of feather lite material.

I think the clothing manufacturers figured out a way to cut costs.

If I know I am going to be somewhere cool or with aircon I often wear a longer sleeved top as due to a medical condition I can't stand any cool breeze over my left forearm, right isn't so bad. So unless it is really really warm I don't like wearing shortsleeves/sleeveless tops for fear of being uncomfortable.

I was just talking about this with my cousin the other day. She is getting married and went looking for wedding gowns. She is getting married in February and wanted something with sleeves, but there wasn't a single gown with sleeves for her to try on. Everything is strapless, halter, spaghetti straps or sleeveless. Her arms aren't her best feature, so she really wanted to cover them up. It's really crazy when you think about it. If you have heavy arms, you are out of luck.

Hey, I had a February wedding! I also have a wedding dress in my basement with full sleeves! :teeth:

Oh, my gosh, I noticed the same thing this weekend when I went shopping. My arms LOOK fine in short sleeves but my office is about 60 degrees all summer. I have to wear something with some sleeves--it looks pretty silly to wear a cardigan when it's 95 degrees out. (But I do it anyway!)

Give us some sleeves!

My co-worker and I were just talking about this the other day. We could easily continue to wear our turtlenecks throughout August if we didn't have to go outside. Why do they keep these offices so darned cold?

Try finding a dress with sleeves! I was looking for one for a winter wedding and the JCPenney lady said that is everyone's biggest complaint and no one makes them!

I think we can all look on the bright side here. If the rest of the world is as disgusted with the clothing manufacturers as we are, they'll learn their lesson this season and come out with sleeves next year! :thumbsup2
