Apparently going to WDW solo is "sad and depressing" LOL

Haven't been solo but I would totally do it if DH wasn't interested. Anyway, the same people who make that comment to you are the same ones who ask us "Why would you go to WDW without kids?". Some people can't think outside their own little sphere. :confused3 Have fun!

I'm so glad to see so many Disney fans comfortable going solo! This October I will be going solo at DLR for five days and can't wait. I love the idea of taking my time and seeing all the little things I miss when with others. What a shame to hear that some people feel the need to put down solo travelers. I'm not great with quick comebacks, so I'm glad I found this thread. :)

Someone once said "Going Solo, is a whole lot better than not going at all". So true. The only part I don't like, is the airline travel, and I am getting better at that. Being extra careful to be safe.

I was just at DLR this past March for 4 days on my first ever solo trip and loved every minute of it. I'm excited about doing it again in October at WDW this time.

I met some really nice people while waiting in line or sitting on the curb for the parades to start. I was lucky that they all were very positive with their responses when I told them I was there solo.

Reading all of these posts is making me so happy! When I tell friends and family that I will stay at WDW alone for a week, they either look at me like I am crazy, or ask WHY???
I was a little nervous at first, but I am getting quite happy about my solo time there.
People either "get" Disney, or they don't. It makes ME happy!:thumbsup2

I have done solo trips at Disneyland for a few years now. In August, I will do my first ever solo WDW trip. I am nervous about the airline travel part. I know that once I am checking into Pop Century, the nerves will go away. I have to learn how to navigate the Orlando airport by myself.

there are a couple of tricks to the Orlando airport-I always end up helping people because I travel there for work as well as for Disney. When you land, you will need to take a monorail to the main terminal-how fun is that! It only goes one way so you cannot mess up. Just follow the signs. Magical Express is on the ground level, B side. Cross from A to B before you go downstairs. Then follow the signs to Magical Express. Here is a map for the airport

Thanks everyone for your responses!!! I think we are starting a serious movement with all of us solo travelers. I love it!! This is my last day here at WDW and packing up to get ready to fly back North in the morning... here is a little collage highlight of my week, but I hope you all tune in to my trip report that I will be putting together soon. Im hoping to start next week after I get my bearings back... I did two tours - "Dolphins in Depth" and "Wild By Design" had 3 meet ups - one from Here (DisDivas), one from FB (Disney Dreamers) and one random meet up with a member here..., I did all 4 parks - some great ADRs and and even got an upgrade to a 1 bedroom Villa!!! No meltdowns, no pissy adults, no diaper changing.. just loads of fun!!!

Thanks LaLaLovesWDW! LOVE your posts. Glad you had a great time and am looking forward to your trip report. You are an inspiration and I appreciate it greatly! I have been going through some very rough times lately but Disney and you guys have been keeping me going and looking forward towards my next trip! No matter what, I will always have Disney magic and Disney friends! :wave2:

About to leave for my second solo trip ever! Also the first time I'm going to be able to spend more than a few days in the parks. Woohoo!!!

So excited for you! Enjoy!

I'd been wanting to go back to WDW ever since I'd found out how it had expanded since I'd last been there in '89 and was going with a colleague from work who subsequently left.

The catalyst for my solo trip was a friend of mine who went on his own solo trip to Japan, and since I enjoy my own company a lot - I go to the movies on my own for instance, I decided to go on my own.

I've had some good responses, some flat out surprised ones and one of my colleagues this morning jokingly told me I could have borrowed her son!

Thing was though, I'd always gone on holiday with my parents with the exception of a single trip to Ireland in '98 which I went on with a friend and his brother and I just fancied a solo trip

Planning my first solo this fall. I am single, no children. I have gone with the rest of my family years ago and they were just too overwhelmed. Went with just my nephew, he only wants to ride the thrill rides. Went with family friends, they just like the calm rides. None of them ever like to shop or eat more than hamburgers or chicken fingers!!!! To top it all off I am the one footing the majority of the bill.

So this year I am pleasing myself. I would have no problem telling people I haven't had too much fun traveling with others so thought I'd see if the problem was them or myself:confused3

Since I foresee less income in my future, I want one magical trip.:cool1:

This is true for me, also. Not working as hard now, so my travel budget has taken a hit. I want to do WDW the way I want to, taking time to look for the little things, browsing in the shops to my hearts content, eating at the restaurants I most want to. And no one will talk me into EE this time! :scared1:

I just got back from a solo trip & it was just as awesome as the last two were! I'm sorry for anyone who've had comments like OP's in the parks or anywhere on property. The saying Ignorance=Bliss is pretty accurate for some people. Fortunately, I tend to meet some pretty cool people who are there solo as well or are impressed by me being there solo.

The 1st time I planned & took a solo trip was last July & I admit I was a bit nervous but as soon as I entered the parks, all negative feelings went out the window in a hurry b/c I became so focused on what I was going to do next. :cool1:

I have never had a CM make a strange comment to me about being solo but that may be b/c of the way I announce that I am a party of one, lol. I can't help it, I love not having to squeeze into a ride with someone else or wonder if they are having as good a time as I am. It feels so nice to be there by myself that telling them I am 'just one' naturally brings a smile to my face & a sense of pride b/c I am not ashamed or afraid to be there alone.

The only thing that still does bother me a little is the attention that I sometimes get from adults or children who see that I am there dining alone & begin to stare (whether they realize or not). This happened to me a couple times at different QS restaurants but as soon as I acknowledged them, they stopped paying any mind. It's one thing to people watch but to do it while others are eating to me is just rude & a bit creepy. But I do understand that sometimes they (especially children) don't realize they are staring & are just curious so I try not to be offended at all & smile at them.

I Love the planning part of my trips but also Love being spontaneous when things don't work out as planned or I have time to kill, whether it's stopping to relax & take in the atmosphere or choosing to hop to another park or resort.

Just the thought of planning my next solo trip is getting me excited again! Maybe that means it's time to begin. ;)
