Your dislike of the dining plans has been well-documented. If you know how to use the plans correctly, you'll always come out ahead.
Even though the OP wasn't asking about it, for example, using a DP credit for a character meal breakfast, and having your children spend time with 4-5 characters that would otherwise take two hours to pull-off in the parks, is an invaluable usage of a credit on the DP for breakfast. The one thing more important in this world than money is time. You can always make more money. You'll never get back the time that you've lost, particularly on vacation.
I merely said that most of the breakfasts were rip-offs on the dining plan, I didn't say that the breakfasts were not worthwhile in themselves. And I'm not always an enemy of the dining plan, I use
free dining, upgraded to deluxe, myself.
Even putting aside 2012 prices.. just looking at 2011 prices -- At about $45 per adult. Most non-character TS breakfasts are under $20. (Most are under $15). So even if you have a $20 TS breakfast (steak and eggs), and a $4 snack, you would need to find a $20+ CS meal just to break even for the day.
Most of the character meals are only slight better. Breakfast at Crystal Palace is $29. Throw in a $4 snack and a $15 CS lunch/dinner... And you save a miniscule $3 or $4 for the day.
Only a couple of the character breakfasts provide any real value under the
DDP.
Where all TS credits are treated the same --- The typical non-character breakfast costs about $15-20.... While the typical non-character lunch dinner, easily costs $25-$35. The typical CS breakfast costs about $8-$10, while the typical CS lunch/dinner costs $15-18.
And of the character meals, the typical character breakfast is under $30 (except for Akershus I believe, and CRT which is 2 credits), while the typical character dinner is over $35.
So it's pretty easy to see, that breakfasts are not generally a good use of credits.
