We've been to US once before in 2005 and stayed at HRH. Our DS wants to stay at HRH for 2 nights before we head to DW. My question is, would it be worth getting an AP to get a room discount? Also, is it like DW where only 1 person in the room needs an AP? At this point the rooms for June 1, 2012 are $319. We have AAA, but the rates aren't out yet and I doubt that discount would be very much. Thanks!!! :)

it's a toss up whether the ap will save you a lot of money.
you might break even with it though.

you might get 20-5% discount off the room.
check back and see what the rates were for this past june in some of the trip reports or older threads.

that will give you an idea what you could save for a two night stay.

the ap and the aaa allows you a 10% discount off of food and merch in the parks and some of city walk.

both ap and aaa give a discount on buying tickets for the family.

i think the preferred ap is about $170 now.
considering you would only use it for 2 park days/as in tickets, discount on 2 night room stay and food and merch discounts, i just don't know.

call aaa and see what rates they have.
if it is not available, ask them what the rates were for this june.
you can kind of figure it will be in the same ball park.

you will need to juggle some numbers around to figure out if you will come out ahead by buying the ap.

since you already are a member for AAA, you can sort out the future costs now.

for your other question, yes, just like dw on the ap.
only one person in the room needs to have the ap for that rate.

when you book, tell the TM you have the AAA and want the room discount.
once ap rates come out, you can call and modify your rate by changing to the ap rate, in case that is cheaper.

you do not have to have the ap when you book for an ap rate.

you buy the ap online, and sent a voucher.
you redeen that voucher in the park at guest services.

sometime before you check out of the hotel, show the tm at the front desk you do have that ap so your rate will reflect it.

when i have used AAA for the room rate, i have received a 30 % discount off of the room.

it all depends on the date for the amount of discount and room type.

(i also have the AP)

We are only staying two nights on our next trip and buying the AP was a win for me. If we had paid rack rate and bought two 2-day park-to-park tickets, there was only an $8 price difference than if I bought one preferred AP, one two day park to park ticket, and booked at the AP rate. It was a no-brainer, especially since we will get food discounts and a discount on the Halloween Horror night tickets. You just have to run the numbers.

Wow, such great information - Thanks so much!!! I'll do my homework and see what works best for us. They told me to call back in August to check on AAA rates...:) By the way MScott - your baby is adorable!!!
