We are going to be in the DL area for 2 weeks and were wondering if it is more cost effective to buy an AP rather than a 5 day pass in case we want to go some extra days. Are there any extra "perks" with the AP? Can we give them to someone else to use after we are done since we won't be back to use them again?

There are many perks that go along with a Disneyland Resort AP (sharing isn't one of them though). There are many discounts at various food and merchandise locations. Take a look at disneyland.com for details.

You can also check the pricing on the various passes on disneyland.com. The adult 3 plus 2 free is about $119, with a deluxe AP being about $149, premimum $226.

The Disneyland AP's have your picture on them, so you would not be able to "give them" to someone else to use after your done.

If disneyland.com says $165 then that is the price, I was going by memeory (guess it failed :) ) You can get a $20 discount on the premium if you happen to be a Disney Club Memeber.

Just so you know...
If you get the 5-day pass, you don't have to use it on consecutive days. I believe you have two weeks to use up your five days. 5 days is sufficient to cover both parks really well.

The only other cheaper alternative is to get a Southern CA AP. From what I hear, you don't have to be from Southern CA to buy one, and they are cheaper than a five-day pass. The catch is that they have a lot of block-out days. (all of the summer, and every weekend) so you'd have to make sure your trip didn't hit these days. You can see the block-out calendar on the Disneyland website.

also, if you get the Premium AP for at least one person in your group they get more restaurant discounts than SoCal or Deluxe AP holders, plus Premium AP holders get 10% discounts on store purchases (in both parks and WoD) of $10 or more.

Thanks for all the advice. I already purchased annual passes and we're leaving Monday morning! Yippee!!

even tho I live in TX! With my Disney Club discount, it cost only $205...which means it is about the same as two 2 day- park hopper passes...I've been there and hopped more than that already...ALSO with the PAP you get 10 % all merchandise with $10 min. purchase almost ANYWHERE on property...I'm a pin collector, so I've save a BUNCH so far! So much better a deal than at WDW!!!
