AP vs. 10 day hopper

My wife and i are fortunate to have enough DVC points to spend all of February in WDW (we live in the Northeast & like a break from the cold)....We were long time AP holders as well....With Covid we let our AP's lapse.....That said, we have since looked into the 10 day pass (since we can't get an AP).....We felt 10 days in the park spread out over the month would be more than enough park time....But wait.....What we were not aware of was the fact that a 10 day pass must be used within 14 days of first use....UGH!!.....really!.....Why???....

I know a lot of folks here bemoan the fact that no AP's messes with their 2nd trip of the year....In this case it messes with my first trip....I would think a reasonable expiration of a 10 day pass would at least be 20 days (every other day)...Oh well...such problems have I.:)

Yeah...they have adjusted things so that passes have to be used in X amount of days now. I agree with you it would be nice to have a longer expiration for passes, especially with no AP's for sale.

It's too bad we can't get the same deal our UK DVC family gets. A 14 day pass good for what 28 days...
Those UK deals do make it sting even more.
We also lapsed and got stuck blocked out of APs. On our last trip we had to give up our Guardian of the Galaxy preview because we didn't have enough days without buying extra passes. It's so cruel how they've created classes of park guests and locked people out. It's not right that people are getting to renew while others are locked out.

Hopefully they will get these APs back. I let mine expire a few months back. Could have been a mistake.

my wife is pushing for keeping our November room and just doing universal. that means renting a car. driving. bla bla bla. what I loved about the Disney trips was fly in and then just get carted around from park to park. I have never rented a car in Florida for 22 plus years. I just want to rent the points out and go to the beach again in the fall or really early spring to fish. I really can't be bothered with universal. I will go if season passes come back but if they don't im going to keep trying to blow off the idea of universal and staying on Disney property. I know if I get pushed into this im wearing a universal shirt every single day. this is all just a joke at this point.

Are you sure you don't qualify? I thought I saw a post somewhere else on the DIS that you don't have to be a resident of the UK?
They can’t sell those tickets to Americans unfortunately but if OP resides elsewhere s/he can purchase them.

About the only thing you can do, (aside from selling house, car and first born) is go down, just do resort hopping, read War and Peace or all Harry Potter books, then go to parks over 14 days. Then stay in room watch all the Harry Potter , Star Wars and Lord of the rings movies.

My DH would love only going for 10 days over 30. We are hopefully going down for two weeks in Dec. I have every three days as a rest day. I asked him what do you think? He said I like the rest days.

I've said this before, but if FL people can get AP or special tickets, so should DVC. Really, for people like you with a ton of points.......yes, you can use them for other locations , yes , you "only" bought a room, but I would find it very hard to believe that anyone bought DVC with the thought of traveling just for a room. To me it's like you bought a car, because it looks pretty sitting in your driveway.

Do you stay a month at disney every year? Just curious what you do for a month? So many times you hear people say, after 8 days, 2 weeks etc I was more than ready to go home. Staying a month would be a dream to me.

Has the OP called and asked if there are any extended options? Given the situation and the boatload of points you must have, it might be worth a shot in asking. Their system can obviously handle longer experations since the UK versions exist, so might be worth a try.

Hello, fellow unfavorable! I'm interested why you didn't buy when they were released and activate them later? I did that, even though I didn't have a trip for a while, because I didn't trust Disney anymore.

I actually do think they will release some APs eventually, but I don't think it will be soon. I'd consider it a lot more likely if APs get further devalued with escalated price, or afternoon park admission, or shenanigans with the park reservations like in California, something like that.

Jo Jo, 10 days over 30 would be fine, however the point i was making is that those 10 have to be used within 14 days of 1st use, leaving 14 more days with no parks.....i'd prefer a more even distribution....

As for what i do for a month, pretty much whatever we want at whatever pace we want....My wife and i love the fine dining every other or every third day....then there are the pools, resort hopping, Celebration (town), Disney Springs etc....whatever the mood is....

As for people saying 8 days to two weeks is more than enough well that's fine for them.....But after 1 month i still have 11 more months at home..... :)

I had thought the UK pass would be discontinued once Paris DL opened.
I'm very happy though, that at least our UK Mousketeers can buy that pass even if we can't. 🏰
