We were planning on upgrading out kids AP's to PAP's next week (1A & 1C).

Was just reading allears & it said that WDW does NOT pro-rate the difference from AP to PAP (like they do with other tickets) & charges the full price difference.

This was the first I heard of that.

Can anyone confirm or deny?

Thanks!

Yes, that is correct - Disney no longer prorates upgrades from AP to PAP (they used to prorate - I don't remember when the change occurred).

You will pay the full price difference no matter when you decide to do the upgrade.

Best wishes -

UGH!

Well doesn't that stink! :sad2:

You can upgrade every other ticket for a pro-rated amount except these? That's not very nice of them!

I think what you do for one you do for all or you don't do at all. Maybe it's a mom thing.

Thanks CarolMN.

You're welcome, but "prorating" isn't the deal it may have been in the past, either.

FWIW, since MYW, Disney doesn't really "prorate" anymore. (At least not in the sense that every day on a multiday ticket is worth the same amount).

MYW tickets are heavily "front end loaded", so if you turn in a partially used ticket to buy a new AP/PAP (or longer MYW ticket), you don't get much of a credit for the remaining days. The last few days can be worth as little as $7 or $8 dollars - so it's much better to save them for another trip.

Also, if you want to add the "no expiration" or hopping feature or "plus" feature to a base MYW ticket, you pay the same price whether you've used a few days or not.

Hope your plans don't have to change too much. If you are going to visit a waterpark or DQ and just pay separately, remember that DVC offers a small discount - about $4 off an adult ticket.

Best wishes -

Thanks to the magic of the internet, too many people found out the secret of prorating their AP to a PAP during the last month or two of their year so Disney changed their rules.

Used to be you would pay a prorated amount (say the price difference bwteen an AP and a PAP was $120, then your monthly amount would be $10). People would go do the upgrade with a month left on their AP and for $10 would have full use of water parks, PI, and DQ for that month. Too many people were doing that so Disney ended it.

BTW, it is now the same system for all upgrades now. There is very little prorating of prices done anymore. Most everything is now charged by the difference in original selling prices.

At least I know before I get there!

We will still be doing the upgrade but it would have been nice.... the way I figured it (I have no idea how WDW was doing it in the past but) I calculated the price I paid per day for an AP (prior to Aug. increase) & the current price per day for a PAP. Took the difference between the two x # of days left on the year to get a true "pro-rated" amount. Since the existing passes expire in January, my figures put it at about $120 total. Now it's going to be about $220 I think.

I'm sure we'll still get our monies worth but a hundred bucks is a hundred bucks. We have a trip next week where TL/BB will be visited often & a trip in Jan that we will get to see DQ for the first time so... in the long run it's all good.

Thanks again!
