AP/Room Discount Question

If you are planning to buy an AP for an upcoming few trips...can you take advantage of AP discounts before you swipe the card in a park for the first time? For example, if I were to go next April, and know that I'll also go next August, could I buy an AP, say in February, and use it to discount my hotel room for the April (1st) trip?

My mind tells me that you should be able to do this...but one never knows...do one?

Yes, you can book a room with an AP discount without having an AP. If you are asked to show the AP at check in and haven't activated it yet, you should have 24 hours to return with an activated AP .
