My AP expired on Dec 13. I have until Jan 13 to renew, so I called and ordered a renewal. The CM gave me a number to put in MDE, which I did. It now shows a renewal certificate available. The CM said my Magic Band should work fine when I go in April. Has anyone done this before? I'd hate to miss the renewal window. Makes me nervous that it shows as a certificate and not as an AP.

It isn't offically an AP until you go to guest relations at a park or DTD to activate it. You won't be able to enter a park until you go to guest relations. They need to see your ID before they will issue the AP. We'll be doing this for the first time later this month. Our AP expired Nov 30th and we renewed them in Nov. The CM gave me a number and I entered it into our MDE and it shows we have a renewal certificate. We also received vouchers in the mail that we have to take to guest relations in order to activate the AP.

My AP expired December 31st and I wanted to renew to save the $95. My son told me it would be more cost effective to wait until my next trip and get a new one so the expiration date would be later. I just booked a trip for the second week of March so as long as there isn't a price increase it makes sense.

It's fine. I had the same qualms when I renewed back in August. You should have received an email from Disney with the renewal certificate stuff. I didn't realize that (looking for the lime green things in the mail) but all I had to do was present that email with e codes to the ticket window and all was good.

Same process, just something different to present to update the bands. AS far as Disney is concerned, you are upgraded. You don't have to worry like I did :) All your info is now on RFID which is connected to your MDE thing and it's all good.

It will work. But you will need to activate your renewal in April before you enter a park. I did that at a Guest Relations window but I think you can do it at a ticket window too. However, since yours is a renewal, it will still expire Dec. 13 2015, not a year from the date you activate it. I didn't have a voucher to present, but gave them the number I was given to link to MDX.
Mine expired Dec. 8, I activated the renewal at Epcot guest relations on Dec. 11 and the new AP was backdated to Dec. 8.

When you renew do they send you new magic bands, slider etc in the mail when you renew from home? Or not till after you use them in the park?

If you have a MagicBand already, there is no need to send you a new one. The card inside is updated. We got our MagicBands back in March, 2014. We renewed in August, 2014 on the same bands. All info on the RFID card inside. The reason to present your photo ID is to activate the pass which they do in your MDE account but they need to see photo ID to make sure that is you. It's just a measure to make sure the band (like the old "paper" annual pass) is not being passed around to different people.

So when you renew you do not get a new AP MB slider for the new year nor a new discount card?
