AP Renewal and Magic Bands

Pretty sure the yellow discount card is only needed when you're using your MagicBand and don't have your AP RFID ticket with you.

Honestly, I remember getting it with the first MagicBand they sent me in the box. Then they sent me a new one in the mail because the expiration date was wrong or something. When I renewed my pass, I tossed the box, didn't even remember to look for the discount card because I never use it.

Inside the box under the cardboard? Why on earth would they put it under there? It never occurred to me to do anything to the box other than pull the band out and put it on. We have three magic band boxes here somewhere, will have to tear them apart to see, I guess. Thanks

Edited to add I just tore apart all the magic band boxes we had--turns out we had four--and nothing in the bottom under the cardboard that holds the bands except directions. Weird. Maybe they know we don't shop, lol.

FWIW-- I noticed it looks like you stayed onsite for your trip. We are APs and when we stayed on site, we got our magic bands (in the Incredible box), but since it was tied to room reservation, we did not get the discount card then even though we were passholders at the time. When we renewed our pass and ordered new "Passholder" bands, we got the card in that "Passholder" box.

This was the beginning of the year so I don't know if that has changed. I have a trip onsite coming up next year, so I will see which package they send for that reservation!

I do have an AP discount card, but even on the passholder FAQ website it states that its use is not required.

https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/faq/passholders/cards-necessary-in-park/

I think this is going to be one of those things that every CM is going to give you their perspective, probably based on their most current training, as some PP have stated has been happening for now. We are in a transition phase with these and sadly the Disney website is often the last to be updated. They should honor what it says but based on the wording with the Discount Cards it sounds like the plan is to require them to be used. I think once we pass the one year mark of them sending these out, it may be a requirement. I always carry mine.

The paperwork that came with them says "..bring it with you each time you visit to receive your Passholder discount priviledges. You will need to present a valid photo id...." It also states to show your discount card and ID for parking. The card itself says "Discount Card grants Passholder eligibility to Passholder benefits..."

The cards are pointless and an additional expense to Disney if they weren't planning on them being used for discounts.

Right, but they can't actually ban using an RFID pass for discounts and parking until GR has the ability to print gold discount cards when they activate your pass. Otherwise, passholders would have to chalk up that first trip with a renewed or new pass as a loss when it comes to discounts and parking -- and that isn't going to fly with anyone.

This is true, and also... you won't even get a discount card at all if you never choose to go online an customize a Magic Band to be shipped to you.

Yes, I'm sure it's because we always stay onsite, but it is odd they never sent us--or offered to send us--the Passholder box/bands. Prior to our most recent trip a couple weeks ago we always customized our bands online and received them in the Incredibles box prior to arrival. I guess I could poke around MDE and the Passholder site to see if I can find a way to order Passholder bands, I suppose, though it doesn't seem important to have the card so the only thing we're really missing is the decorative Passholder slider thingy that goes on the band.

True. Problem is at moment there are CMs only accepting the Discount Card so if you have one, bring it so you don't have to lose time on asking for a supervisor etc. They are going to an expense to go in this direction and I can see them working on that capability sooner than later even if it is just at certain windows. Otherwise it is all so pointless.

Not exactly true. I did get some of mine with a letter in a regular envelope, just like tickets would come. So they could set it that if you don't order your MagicBands in say 30 days of use, they automatically send you just the Discount Card.

Long term goal should be it is attached to your MDE, you can scan your MagicBand or ticket to prove you are an active AP holder with you full name etc visible on their screen and then they ask for ID to match.

Dont have the magic band, dont want it. We renewed our ap's last year and just kept our old RFID cards. We have been using them for merchandise, dining discounts and parking with no problems.

I got my Passholder bands today and our discount cards are black.

We do. Is that why they are black instead of yellow? This is all new to us. I got the seasonal since I wasn't sure we'd be visiting the parks on the blackout dates since those times are just too busy for me. If we do decide to go I'll upgrade them.

Yes season is black due to no parking.

This is so funny because every time I have tried to show my card I am told that won't work and they want to see my actual AP.

Just a question about the discount cards. Two of them have the last name spelled wrong and one has a different last name printed than what is on the MDE account. However the last name does match the actual drivers license. She uses maiden name more than married name. Will these be issues?

The maiden name one should be fine as I had to show DL and AP to get discount, the misspelled ones you may wish to call AP line on. I've personally never had a CM look close enough at my id to notice this.

I have an odd question. Has anyone ordered their Magic Bands recently? Did the slider say Passholder 2014 on it or are they 2015 now? We can order new ones but I kinda wanted the updated slider.

We just upgraded a couple weeks ago and I ordered them last week. Got them yesterday and they came with 2014 sliders. Very disappointed considering most of our year is 2015. :(

I was wondering the same question. Hopefully they aren't sending out 2014 sliders on January 1st! That would be a big screw-up.
