AP rates vs "season" rates vs package discounts?

So, if general public free DDP rumored dates are correct, we won't be able to take advantage of them. Moving on to Plan B, we're starting to look into December dates. In Decembers past, we've had AP's and used those rates, or we've managed to check in during value season and get better rates that way.

It seemed to me that AP rates were offered just for specific dates, for example, let's say through December 19. That meant you had to check out on December 20--there was no carrying over the rate. But if you checked in during value season, let's say on December 19, the last day of value season, you could keep that rate for your entire stay. That meant getting a value season rate practically until New Year's. Am I correct about the difference between AP rates and "season" rates?

Next question: How do the discount codes work (40% off PIN codes, or the ones listed here and on other sites for the general public)? Are they for specific days only, like I remember the AP rates, or are they based on your check in day, like most of the packages seem to be?

Just trying to figure out the best way to put together our backup plan (which we will hopefully not even need to use). TIA!

If you check in on the last day of the AP rate discount you would be able to get that rate the entire time - as long as it's available. For an example, we are checking in on March 30, the last day the AP rates are available, and we have that rate through April 7.

I believe discount codes are also just based on your check-in date.
