Does anyone know when they are generally released? Hoping and thinking soon...

I do believe it was Aug. 15 in 2007. In 2008 it was Aug. 25 if I remember correctly. The Disney site is showing no availablity in the Deluxe resorts the 2nd week in Dec. I was hoping to change my AAA rate to an AP rate. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I will keep my fingers and toes crossed for you too! I already have a 40% off code for a part of my stay(one rerservation) and hoping to get AP rate for the other reservation.

Geez, that sounds kind of greedy ah?:rotfl:

or can I make the reservation and purchase the AP when we go in December?
I have reservation now at rack rate and am hoping for discount. There was no AAA discount available when it was made. We plan another trip in the next 12 months, so thought we would get the AP, if we could get the room discount, too.
Would we be able to get the dining plan added if we have an AP?

Have the AP when you checkin!

Is it only for delux resorts or can you get an AP discount at a moderate resort?

I wish this had worked for us in July!! I reserved @ rack rate before buying AP onsite on arrival (before check-in), couldn't get AP discount at the desk as the reservations CM had told me I could. They told us we would have to have made the reservation with AP already purchased to get the discount, despite what Disney reservations had said. :confused3

I am confused... was your ressie at the time of check in for rack rate or an AP rate?

Does anyone know if the AP rate is room only? And whether AP or DIsney VISA rate is better?

Also...can you use it for split stays? I've got 9 days at POP, 6 at POR and 8 at CBR with a AAA discount, but hoping for better!

Sorry.

I called Disney, reserved room @rack rate. Bought AP same phone call.

CM told me the AP discount could be applied "retroactively" once I was there.
I picked up AP and activated it before check-in just in case

CM at check-in told me I would have to have had an active AP at the time of reservation to get the AP discount.

I'm not sure who was/is right. It's frustrating to get different answers whether Disney or everyday life.

That's a shame. It is my understaning that you should have been able to apply the AP rate over the phone (if one was available) and only needed to show an AP at the time of check in. It sounds like they were BOTH wrong.

sorry, but the above statement is wrong, you can get the AP rate once it becomes available even if you do not have the AP as of yet. as long as you have it at check in! I always book without it and get it when there. 25 plus times:confused3

so even booking at rack rate when they are released, which the date has not been released as of yet, then you can call and have them change ressies over to the AP rate...IF they have your resort available, you may have to make a change if it is not.

Last april, I booked AP rate witout an active AP. On the phone, they tried to convince me to buy right away but I refused. I told them I would buy when I get there.

When I checked in, I told them I would buy it just after I get my room and this was fine with them.

I have done this several times also. a few times I had it in voucher form and did not activate it for two days. Then I have bought 3 days after being there. so it should not be a issue at all!

Yes, AP holders can add the dining plan to any room-only stay (it then becomes a "package" that much be paid of 45 days in advance, but you still get the AP discount on the room itself - DP is the same price for everyone.)

Is it only for delux resorts or can you get an AP discount at a moderate resort?

AP discounts are generally available for all room classes - Value, Moderate, and some Deluxes (but not all Deluxes sometimes).

AP rates are room only; DP would be regular price and tickets... well, you don't need 'em. :) Yes, you should be able to use it for a split stay - Disney doesn't call them split stays, they are just two separate reservations. As long as there are rooms in both resorts at a discounted rate you can do the "split stay".

Also, if you really want to make sure you are ok on the reservation ahead of time, you can always purchase one AP voucher ahead of time from a Disney Store and have that with you when you make the reservation and then get how ever many other APs you need once you arrive at WDW.
