I think that I read on here that I either have to buy an AP at the park or buy the voucher at the Disney Store because I want to use multiple gift cards towards its purchase. If I get the voucher from the Disney Store, will I be able to link that to MDE in order to make FP+ reservations ahead of our onsite stay, or does the AP have to be activated at WDW before it is able to be linked?

You can use the voucher number to book your FP+ selections once you have booked your resort stay and are within your 60 window. You don't need to have your AP activated to do this.
