AP Questions for a beginner

I know AP is annual pass. What do you get for it? How much does it cost? We are a family of 4 so can I buy just one for these discounts or does it have to be 4 purchased? Do you have to renew it every year if for example we are considering going back next april but then won't go again for a few years, so can I not buy it after next years trip again. Thanks for any assistance. You people on here a a wealth of information.

You will find that an AP will be about $462 to buy and then it's $419 to renew it.
You will get some dining discounts with it...not all restaurants, and only about 10% at lunchtime. Also you will get decent room discounts at certain periods during the year. You can buy the Disney Dining Experience card for $65, which will get you 20% off most WDW table meals. There are other perks but I can't remember them all now.
You only need one in order to get any discounts and it has to be an adult AP. You have 30 days after your AP expires to renew it at the reduced rate. Mine expires at the end of Nov..I'm always renewing it on my Dec trip 10 days after it expires.

Check out allearsnet for prices - you can get the premium pass which gets you into the water parks and disneyquest. You only have to have one to get the discounts, but you should figure out what you would spend on tickets for both of your trips to see if an AP would be cheaper. If you don't choose to renew it next year, you can get another one at any time - you would just have to pay full price again! Good luck!
