I will be going to DL Labor Day weekend with a friend who would like to buy a Deluxe AP but Saturday & Sunday are blockout days. I know that people who buy regular Park Hopper tickets have the option of upgrading to an AP. Would it be possible for her to buy a regular 3-day Park Hopper ticket and upgrade to a Deluxe AP on Sunday? Thanks.

I know this one from experience.

If you upgrade to an AP on a day that happens to be a blockout day for the AP, then you get a special pass valid for that day only so that you don't lose the value of your park hopper.

We upgraded a 5 day pass on a Saturday, which was a blockout day, and that's what they did for us.

Yes that would work EXCEPT the value of the AP has to be more than a Park Hopper. ie you can't get a 159(is that what is is now?) with a 180 Parkhopper(You'd have to get a 279) You could get a 159 AP with a 130 Parkhopper and youd just pay the difference. etc.

and they will backdate your AP to the first day of your hopper ie if you used your hopper Monday/Tues/Wed and got your AP Wed- it would expire a year from that Monday not the Wed.

Black out tickets are currently 30 bucks- if you plan to come back on lots of blackout days it may be more benificial to get a PAP.

Or, if you don't want to pay for the Premium AP now, just go later on a block out day, buy a block out day pass and then use it to upgrade to a higher level AP. We always start out with a So Cal and then Upgrade to a deluxe on a block out day. That way, you get in on a blocked out day and then use the $30 amount to upgrade to the next level.
