If I buy annual passes for my family one at a time, say over a couple of months, for an upcoming trip, when do they become active? On date of purchase or once we go to guest services at the park when we get there and activate them? Like if I buy one today, and don't visit the park until Christmas, will the pass be good from today until July 26, 2019 or from Dec 25, 2018 - Dec 25, 2019?

APs can ONLY be activated in-person.

Regardless of when you PURCHASE an AP (actually, you are purchasing and "AP certificate,")
the actual AP won't become activated until after you visit a WDW Guest Relations or ticket booth to pick up your "AP Card" and THEN actually enter through a WDW park gate.

Only THEN will the AP start it's year of life.

Having an (as yet unactivated) AP certificate in your MDX account WILL allow the advance-booking of FP+
on the date (30 or 60 days in advance) that you otherwise become eligible to book them.

And yes, all of this (including the "AP Card") is correct even if you will be using a MagicBand at WDW.

In that case, valid Dec 25, 2018 through the end of the day on Dec 25, 2019.

This is exactly what I understood, thanks so much for validating! I really appreciate it.
