I have been planning a November 2017 solo trip with 9 days in the parks. My niece is considering a trip for her family summer 2018. Since DW and I took her to WDW for her first trip, she will include me in that trip. I am therefore considering an AP. Can I get an AP discount for my room in November if I want to activate my AP for that trip? Also, for those familiar with it, is TIW worth the cost for someone who will only be in the area a couple of times in the year?

AP discounts on rooms have not been announced for November yet. As of right now, AP discounts are only going through June 10th...I consider the AP to be worth the cost depending on how many days you will be at WDW in 2018. A 9-day park hopper is $505, and a 3-day park hopper is $349. The AP with no water parks and no blackouts is $779. So, if you go 3 days in 2018, the AP will already pay for itself. You would have to go 4 days in 2018 to make the AP with water parks worth the price...I don't have TIW, so I am not able to comment on that. Disney has rolled out some AP discounts for the 45th Anniversary, but I'm not sure if those will continue.

As the pp stated, it is too early to tell what the AP discount for November will be. Currently, the AP room discounts are only out through June 10. As for the TIW, it depends on many variables. I had one in the past and it was great as I ate at many places it was available, plus I enjoy alcoholic drinks with my meals so that was nice for the discount. I did not get one this year as one of the blackout dates is during my next trip in June and the current AP discount is really good, but that ends in September, I think.

I would probably not plan based on the room discount yet, just wait and see. You can go ahead and book and then try to modify if there is availability when it is released. That is what I did for the January/February Trip. When I decided I would upgrade to an AP, I called and changed my room to an AP discount. For my June trip, I had already booked with the spring discount before I upgraded to the AP, but I got online last week and modified my room reservation to the AP discount and saved an additional $245.

That's (basically) what I did for our Jan. trip this year.
I was all booked, and then Disney sent me a bounce-back offer.
So, I booked a NEW reservation with that, then (after everything was all set,) I cancelled my first reservation.
