AP question

I think i read somewhere that the AP's discount on merchandise and stuff would not be any good after the end of Sept- is this true? I am planning on upgrading my ticket to a Deluxe AP, and am hoping to utilize the discounts on food, merchandise, and more... we will be there the first week of October...

Unfortunately, right now Disneyland sources say that the merchandise discount on AP's other than the PAP will end September 30th. Now, this discount has been set to expire but been extended two times previous, so they might extend it again, but I haven't found anything saying so just yet. Since you'll have to be there in person to upgrade, you can ask when you get there and then decide if you still want to upgrade if there are no additional discounts. You will still get a food discount of 10% with a DAP though, that will not change. It's just the merchandise part that is expiring.

For DAPs the food discount is all the time. The special merchandise discount is not a normal perk of the DAP (although they have extended this promo for nearly 10 months). If they extend it again, no one knows....

So yes you will get the food discount, but don't count of the merchandise discount.

Thank you for the info- the food discount will be helpful. Since i am planning on going on the ladies only trip in March I still will upgrade while we are there, as that will take care of my tickets for that trip... and I may be able to sneak another one in too

I totally forgot they had some merchandise discounts for DAP! wheee...I'll be there next week

Edit: I just went to the AP site and they don't list a merchandise discount with DAP..anyone know if they really are or not?

They wouldn't be listed because it is just a temporary promotion, not a permanent feature. The merch. discount is good through Sept. 30 with the DAP.

They did for me and my DAP in late July. I was surprised and the CMs said it was a special thing they were doing this year. So everything I read in this thread sounds right to me.

Yes, they started the extra merchandise discount before or around last year's holiday season and have repeatedly extended it. The discount is 10% off merchandise purchases of $10 or more at most locations for SoCal and Deluxe passholders and 20% off for Premiums (and probably Premieres too since that's equivalent to a premium for both DL and WDW). The current discount expires September 30. There has been speculation and hope that the merchandise discount would be extended yet again for this holiday season, but no official word about Disneyland. There was a thread on the WDW side of these boards about a special Tinkerbell screening and the announcement of the extension of the merchandise discount, but it's not clear how official this was or for how long or if it's just a WDW thing.
