Is it possible to upgrade a five day park hopper to a deluxe ap? How much would the price difference be?

Yes, you can upgrade your 5 day PH to a DAP. If you have the buy 3, get 2 days free PH, it is worth $204 (10+) and $174 (ages 3-9) and a DAP is $299 so you will pay the difference of $95 (10+) or $125 (3-9) if you want to upgrade. If you have the regular 5 day PH, the prices are $249 and $199 respectively so you can do the math for those. Remember that you have to upgrade by your last day at the very latest. Otherwise, the value of your PH will be $0 and you will need to pay the full price for the DAP.

P.S. If you guys are early birds, it will be best to take advantage of the MM on your PH before upgrading to an AP because AP holders do not get MM :thumbsup2

You got me thinking. I can pre-purchase a 5 days pass for $179 on Ares (the current special 3 day price). Will Disney truly give me the full 5 day price towards a DAP? You say $204 but the Disney website says $209. Can I get thr DAP for $90?

Lol...you know as I was looking up the prices, I was wondering the same thing too. However, I don't know if Disney can actually tell how much you paid for the tickets since different sites price them differently so I am assuming that they credit you the full price for them :confused3

You pay the difference between the price and what you PAID.

That is what I thought. But there would be no way for Disney to know what I paid unless I had a receipt. If they ask me I will tell them the truth of course bit I have heard that in some cases they only care about the ticket value and not what I paid. I am already planning to upgrade my PH ticket to a DAP on Day 1 (so I can gett dining discounts for our group of 7). I was just wondering how much it will cost me to upgrade. I figured it would be #299 - 184 = $115 :)

I just upgraded my 5 for price of 3 parkhoppers a couple weeks ago and she had the actual price I paid ($184) go toward the AP price.... I think the amount i paid was printed on the back of my ticket, but I can't remember..... I bought the parkhoppers from Getwaway Today.

I believe people here have reported that Disney scans the ticket and it has the amount paid, not sure though.

The price you paid is coded on the ticket. They know. And the policy at Disneyland Resort (unlike at WDW) is that you get credit for what you PAID for that ticket.

My DAP came to a grand total of $263.

I bought a 3-Day PH from Last Minute Travel for $148, went to upgrade to a DAP on the morning of day 3 -- expecting to pay $151, but was charged only $115. I told the lady that I had bought my ticket for $148, not the Disney price of $184, and was ready to pay from that amount. She thanked me for my honesty and said it was fine. pixiedust:

You can also buy discounted Deluxe APs through TSA if you are a current or retired teacher or administrator in California. The Deluxe AP through TSA costs $279 as compared with $299. They also have discounted one, two, and three-day Parkhoppers though the savings are so-so at the current listed prices. Keep an eye on them, though, because they buy new batches periodically and can end up with a better deal.

FYI - TSA is a credit union for educators in California and there is no membership requirement. Any current or retired member of California Teachers Association (CTA) or Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) is eligible for their extra services (like buying theme park tickets or renting a car) whether or not they use TSA as a credit union because it's a benefit of your union dues. An important note to consider here is that you are also eligible if you're related to a current or retired teacher or administrator in California.

HydroGuy, if you buy the Ares hopper for $179 and DLR credits you to the full $209, you'd be better off with that option since you would save $30. However, if they only credit you with the price of purchase because the price is embedded in the ticket, you might be better off looking into the TSA option.

Here's the link to the entertainment/theme park ticket portion of the website: http://www.tsaspecialservices.com/entertainment.htm#themepark

Unless TSA has changed policy in the last six months, there's no need to get the CTA or ACSA member to purchase the AP or parkhopper for you, you just need to give the member's name and the city (or maybe school district?) for which they work or worked and your relationship to them.

Thanks Steph. That might be the way to go.

You're so welcome! Let me know which you decide to do. If you DO go for the Ares PH, I'm curious to know how much they credit you.

It's nice to see you back posting on the boards. It sounds like you had a marvelous time in Europe. It's gotta be nice to have DLR and the beach in the near future so you don't have the big post-European vacation blues.

Very funny. Yah, Europe was rough. It was so tiring climbing up those Colosseum steps to the top. Did you know there are 551 steps to climb to the top of St Peter's Basilica? Very tiring on my old bones. ;)

I called TSA today and decided to go ahead and buy a DAP direct from them. If necessary I can tell them my mother-in-law is a retired CA teacher. But they did not seem to care. :confused3

They do not sell the 5 days for the price of 3 PH's so I bought those today from Ares for $179 each.

After a search of this forum I just found out about the new AP center at DCA which is reportedly much less crowded than DL's and plan to go there on opening day to get my photo. Basically if the AP saves me $100 in dining costs - which I believe it will - then I will break even just on this trip.

Thanks again for the tip! My first DLR AP. Now I can be part of that despicable group of people. :rotfl:

DH is a teacher and we are planning on getting our APs from TSA so it is nice to hear how it works. We better get on it soon. I kept hoping Costco would have that great deal again but they don't seem to be doing it. I just hope they don't start right after I buy them. We are also planning to go to the AP center at DCA the afternoon we arrive.

That makes sense, I guess. Thanks for the info!

Wow, that's awesome that they still gave you the credits for the higher price :thumbsup2

This is correct. They will scan the ticket and know what you paid. you will receive the difference between the amount you paid and the cost of the DAP.
