AP purchase with GAD and DVC discount

In another thread, quite some time back, I mentioned that I wanted to purchase the PAP while trading in my GAD and getting the DVC $20 discount.

Someone wrote back that I needed to purchase a park hopper with the GAD on one day and then the next day, trade that park hopper in for the PAP and ask for the DVC discount. I didn't ask at the time why it could not all be done at once. Anyone have a clue?

Next question is that I have seen in other threads that you purchase an AP somewhere other than the main ticket windows, is this true, you can't purchase an AP at the regular ticket windows? If so, where are the Annual Pass windows located?

I'll be interested in the replies as I'd like to do something similar.

When I've purchased APs, I've gotten them at the ticket window, but they just issue you a temporary thing that you must take to the AP place inside the park. That's where they take your picture and issue you the permanent card. In DL, it's near the Tiki Room, in the hub area (used to be in the bank at the beginning of Main St, but that's now the Gallery). I don't know about CA.

I just cashed in 3 GADs and upgraded them to annual passes. It was pretty painless - well, except for the cost of 3 deluxe passes + 1 parking these days! We waited in the regular ticket booth line, told the CM at the window what we wanted to do, but she did say she couldn't do the whole transaction - she gave us the 1 day passes for the GAD certificates and then sent us back to the line ( very very short -middle of the day on Mother's Day) to go to a booth on the opposite side - still regular ticket booth though. That CM took the tickets and gave us the new annual passes. Took about 15 min all told, not bad at all ( the passes were renewals and we had the old ones so they had all the info including photos - so we got the passes printed out immediately - no need to go to the AP facilities.

Since our AP's will be new ones, I am thinking that photos will be involved.
