Welcome to the dis vegaspalmtree!

AP=Annual Pass...PAP=Premium Annual Pass

AP rates are discounted rates on hotel rooms that Disney offers, but none are out for this fall or winter yet and it's got everyone antsy!

Check out mousesavers.com for all the discounts Disney offers.

hear rumors about or read about in fairy tales....lately. Its like the old question-If a tree falls in a forest and no one is listening, did it really fall (I know I butchered that), so if AP rates come out for an hour and no one books them, were they really out? I dream about my room at 45% off....

Ok - let me get this straight....... they randomly give great rates monthly to AP holders? Or they only come out with these rates for a short period of time? Or they only come out with these rates with in a week of the date of stay? I am new so forgive my utter ignorance!!!!!

I am planning a trip for Feb. 2004 and am trying to get a great room for a decent price.

Thanks - any info from you experts is truely appreciated!!!!

First, welcome vegaspalmtree!

For hard facts, check out Mousesavers look under WDW -> Resorts -> Discounts.

Here's a little background, others might (hah!) chime in with more.

Up until this year, Disney offered AP room rates for pretty much the entire year - sometimes up to 45% off the rack - regular - rate. They were announced in 2-3 month blocks (say, July-Sept) about 3 months ahead of time. Many folks would book a room at full price and, when the AP rates came out, call up and change their ressie to use the AP rates.

However, this year, due to reasons unknown (but the FairyTale Package, people making AP-assuming ressies and Disney's ignorant and/or soul-less management have all been suggested) the AP rates are for shorter periods and have been announced with little lead time. For example, no AP rates beyond 8/23 have been announced, and today is 8/11 - which makes it tough to plan.

Note, however, that while AP rates have been consistantly provided for years, Disney does not guarantee that AP rates will be offered for a given resort and/or time period. And whether they should or not is a topic for the Debate Board.;)

So a group of people has made plans based on past Disney AP Rate offerings and is wearing a hole in the rug - and burning up the phone lines to Orlando - waiting for the next offering of AP rates.

Hope this helps, and again, welcome to DIS!

Hey Doc.... thanks for the information. How does one find out about these rates? Mousesavers or the dreaded disney phone call?

Also, how was the Polynesian? That's where we are looking at staying this time.

Thanks for the help!

Officially, when you purchase and activate an AP, you get a subscription to the "Mickey Monitor", a quarterly newletter for AP holders. If there are discounts, it says something like "Discount Rates are available for XX Date for YY Resort - other resorts may be available." So you call.

However, there is a virtual army of AP Rate callers out there, and enough of them will inform Mary at Mousesavers.com, and she puts it up there. There is also no shortage of threads here on the DIS Resort forum of people either asking for or notifying about AP rate availability. So if you check those two places, you'll hear soon enough.

As for the Polynesian, we haven't gone yet; somewhere down there is a counter with the 'how long'. We have, however, heard many great things about it - it has the highest repeat guest percentage in WDW. DW and I are empty-nesters, so we're looking for tiki torches, relaxing music on the beaches and Lapu Lapu's at the bar;) . A great site for Polynesian info is Tikiman's Site - check it out.

Good luck!
