AP or 7 day hopper?

We are hoping to do 2 Disney trips in 2002. One in January for just the five of us -- DH and myself and 3 kids. We'd like to go back in early December with friends and their kids.

I am planning to start buying passes at TDS to spread out the cost of the trips. I was thinking with 7 day hoppers, that would give us 11 park days over the course of 2 trips. (7 theme parks plus 4 water parks.) The cost isn't that different for an AP though. My only real preference for the hopper versus the AP is that if we can't afford the second trip, we'll still have days left for another trip, whereas with the AP we'll be out.

What do you all think?

...and here is another consideration - the AP (regular one) only gets you into the 4 major parks - it does not include the water parks or PI.
I like your idea about getting the MOST out of your hopper pass by splitting its use into TWO vacations. You are RIGHT, even if you DON'T get back in December - you will still have your days left for when you DO get back.
These are MY thoughts - anyone else have any others? :)

Just a note. The water parks close for rehab some time in Dec and are closed most of Jan. So check on this befor you by your passes. This year they were closed all of the week befor Christmas and well into Jan. Check over on the Parks board for the days you are looking at..

but they do not usually rehab both water parks at the same time...so one will be open...

either typhoon or blizzard....

at least that has been our experience...

using the PLUS features for pleasure island or river country is not "cost effective" according to others on this board....since they only cost 15$+ to get into...where as the water parks are 30$+ now....

and the 7 day park hopper is the best value of the park hopper passes now....if my number crunching is correct

check out ticket res too for prices....for comparison etc.....

Another consideration since you will be going in January and December is the weather. There is always the possibility of really cold weather that would probably knock out the water parks. Would hate to plan to spend one or two days at the water parks if the weather is cold. Just a thought.
