AP issue- no help from Disney

Can you buy a base, 1 park per day ticket for your stay, that could be used for FPs...then turn in that unused ticket toward the price of your AP upgrade once you arrive? Or would that be more expensive than your upgrade?

You can’t combine admissions to upgrade. An AP plus ticket can’t upgrade you.

Buy tickets to cover the time you are going.
Make fastpasses.
Go to WDW and upgrade to platinum, knowing that the expiration date will stay the same.
Move the tickets you bought to another name on your profile (like a nickname) so they don't accidentally get used when you first enter the park.
Use those tickets when you want to get your gold AP in October 2020.

This is, of course, if you can't find anyone on the phone to upgrade your AP now.

I would forget fast passes. At this point there are no significant Christmas week fast passes left anyway.

We currently have Gold APs that expire 1/16/20 and we are going to WDW Christmas week which is blacked out. We are wanting to make FP+ at 30 days.
I was on the phone with DVC and ticketing yesterday for over an hour. I cannot upgrade our Gold passes over the phone or online. They tell me I can renew and upgrade to Platinum but that pass would start the first day we enter a Park so basically they are telling me the only way to make FPs is to have two APs that overlap for almost a month. Tickets are expensive enough without having to pay for two over the same period of time just to be able to make FPs. Any ideas?

In the same boat. DD’s gold expires in March, but thankfully we have extra MYW tickets available to make FPs. I will modify her pass to Platinum when we arrive and switch the extra ticket out of her name.

But I swear I read a recent post where someone was able to do it over the phone??
