AP holders will get MagicBands for free

Unless I am wrong, this is the first time we've officially heard that, no?
Back in January of '13, Tom Staggs (the Chairman of Disney Parks & Resorts) posted the following as a comment to a post on the Parks Blog:

Hi, Todd. Guests staying at Walt Disney World Resort hotels, and Annual Passholders will receive a band, as well as those guests who purchase a photography package. Guests who stay at non-Disney hotels will receive a ticket with features of touch to enter the park, touch to redeem FastPass+ and touch to pay. These guests can participate in My Disney Experience and purchase a MagicBand if they wish.

All of this AP stuff is so confusing to me! I actually have an AP voucher. We won't be traveling until July, so if they send out MBs to all APs I wouldn't get one since I just have a voucher, right? I do have my AP number linked on MDX.

Also, for those of you making FP+ ressies with your AP...can you only make them for the AP person or can you make them for your entire traveling party?

Your entire party would have to have tickets linked to MDX. You can make them for others that you have added to your MDX friends/family list, but only if they are also eligible.

OMG, they are going to send us ANOTHER set? :lmao: We already have four!

Since all this began I have stayed on-site 3 times The only time I got a MB was when I went into MDE and customized my color the first time Since then, the other 2 generic grey were waiting at the front desk upon arrival ( not sent to my home) and I declined them Is this experience unusual?

No need IMHO, too much packing/mailing from them and I don't need to color coordinate, I guess I'm not fashion savvy ;)

I just can't resist the pretty colors. I am a sucker. :D I assume at some point they will stop sending MBs to people who have already stayed three times within a year, LOL.

Nah, I'm a Pluto girl I only needed yellow :lmao: you would think they would but that would be common sense and well...you know how that goes

You won't get a Magicband for your AP until you activate it. You are not considered an AP holder until that voucher is activated. However, if you register for MDE and link your AP voucher, you will get a band associated with your resort stay. I have no idea if you will get an additional set once you activate your AP but wouldn't be surprised if you do.

Happy planning.

Even though AP holders can now make advanced FP+ reservations once they get a magic band as part of a resort stay, in the new Disney Facebook page FP+ commercial being discussed in the thread...

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3225000

...Disney states that if you want to make advanced FP+ reservations, you need to stay at a WDW resort. This makes me wonder if the AP holders without a resort reservation (but who got a MB with a resort stay) will continue to be able to make advanced FP+ reservations when all of this is finalized. Will Disney decide that advanced FP+ reservations is too much a benefit to be given to those not spending the big bucks at WDW resorts?

If they're saying that, it isn't true. As a test, I just made reservations for tomorrow, which is the last day my annual is valid. I have no resort reservations booked, or even planned.

Perhaps when all the testing is complete, this will change. But for now, those in my testing bucket, at least, can make reservations without staying in a WDW resort.

According to the "MyMagic+ Information for Walt Disney World Passholders" webpage, AP holders will have access to advance FP+ scheduling:
Introducing Disney FastPass+ Service – Later this year we’re taking Disney FASTPASS service to the next level with FastPass+ service. For the first time ever, you’ll be able to reserve an arrival window to access FastPass+ attractions and experiences before you leave home, and make changes on the go. You’ll be able to reserve access to even more attractions—plus shows, parades, fireworks and Character Greetings!
