AP holders: question for you!

I heard that getting an AP might benefit us since we'll be there for over 1 week at at Deluxe resort next Fall 09. We are going in value/free dining season and I wasn't sure.....can you get AP room discounts plus the free dining? I've always heard you can't get double discounts, so if we get free dining, is there a point to getting an AP in hopes of a room discount at the Poly?

Based on past history, there is no free dining with a room discount. To me, since you have to pay rack rate on the room, the Values are really the only resorts worth going for the free dining. With the Deluxe resorts at times the discount can be worth more than paying for dining. This year for a slight change, WDW is offering a room discount for SSR and OKW in addition to free dining for 2009 on the bounceback current offer. With AP you can also get the DDE card for a 20% off discount.
