AP Holders, Early Entry to Universal Studios

I feel that this may be the way Universal will be going with new rides. They started it off with Harry Potterland, have recently added the new Superman ride, and now the new Minion which will open up in the summer. It's also a way to disperse the crowds a bit from all heading to Harry Potter.

Universal has not added a Superman ride...they have no contract with DC Comics for their characters. With the exception of HP, Universal usually does a passholder preview or early entry or something for passholder. The best one I've been to was in 2004 when Revenge of the Mummy opened. They did an after hours passholder only event that was fantastic...but nothing like it since. Lots of people were really upset Universal didn't do anything for passholders when HP opened. No early entry...no previews...nothing.

The passholder early entry promotion was announced in the latest edition of the Universal Passport which I received last week. Remember...this is for Despicable Me and Shrek 4-D only...nothing else will be open. Now all we need are the dates.

I'm guessing AP holders will get early admission as well as resort guests? Probably....

Not sure about onsite guests but I doubt they will do early entry for them at the same time as passholders. Plus I haven't seen anything about early entry for onsite guests except for Spiderman and HP...nothing for the Studios. Now maybe after the passholder dates are over that might be an option.

CF99, I'll PM you either my address or bank routing number--your choice. ;)

I just want to know when Despicable Me is going to open. I'll take early entry, regular entry, ANY entry...........

DITTO!....I've currently got on site reservations for early June, but wll hafta change it if D-Me ride isn't gonna open by the 9th...not looking good though. And of course the rates go up after that. :scared1:

I was thinking memorial day. But there is not enough time to announce it. You might get some soft openings but never count on it.

I read on another site that it's rumored to grand open on June 22, but that's hearsay.

I'm booked for 9 nights over July 4 th and hope it's open then. I booked one year when RRR was going to open, but that became a big mess and was delayed months. :scared1:

You must have been asleep or out of the country but Universal DID have 2 nights of ANNUAL PASS HOLDER ONLY after hours events for Potter. I know, I went to the second one on Dec. 16, 2010 from 8 to 10 pm. The reservation was via web site only and was badly administered with crashes and disconnections. That's why a second night was added. I had a wonderful time and rode FJ twice before it broke down around 9:30.

Another one hoping for Despicable Me to be open - looks like it probably wont be though - we are there 6/7 to 6/12 - do you think they might do any soft openings?

Staying onsite and also have AP's.

I said Universal didn't do anything for passholders when HP opened. I know they finally did the events in December and why do you think they were added? Because so many people complained. A passholder preview is generally offered before the attraction is opened to the public...not several months after the fact. Universal clearly dropped the ball on passholders for the opening of HP.

looks like your dates are almost exactly ours...arriving in Orlando 6th. BUT, I'll hafta push everything back-and spend a lot more money-if D-Me isn't up by that time frame. :surfweb: "patiently" waitin'...

Oh, I agree nothing prior to opening. Everything about the opening was so far out of Universal's comfort zone and control, that first month was FUBAR. I believe the reasons were due to Warner Bros. and Rowling having 100% control of the situation and they could not care less about us Universal Orlando pass holders. The big opening day event, the movie stars, etc. was all geared to promoting Harry Potter movies and books. Anyway, I also went there a few days ahead of opening day and rode FJ and looked around, at least the soft openings were many and APs did have the advantage of being able to sample the place in an hour or 2 visit ahead of time without paying a full day ticket price. Despicable Me is a ride, not a land so a special AP early entry seems right. I'd rather have the LAST hour of the day for APs only since I don't live near Orlando and that would be easier to get to.
