AP Discounts For January 2013

All the news of what just came out with Disney Visa is great, and so is the possibly GP discount Oct 10th?, but I'm still not sure if this is any indication of AP discount also being released on Oct 10th. Another question, for us that have no clue, hah! is whether any anticipated AP discount may be more than the (anticipated) Oct 10th GP?

I mentioned this question in the Jan 2013 discount post but no response as far as I could see. I know we can't control the discounts and nobody really knows the answers, but like you all I'm just trying to do what's possible to make our trip affordable.

I think I can help a little. The past has shown that the discounts are about the same as the Visa GP. The difference is the APs are available without tickets- and there will be a dining package available for some of the rooms. I think the restrictions are pretty much the same--like some resort rooms and types will not be included. We go many times a year because we are close by. Our strategy is to ask what the best deal is for us and stay where they can put us. We kind of roll with it--but we have that ability, because another trip is always coming. I sympathize with those planning a yearly visit.

I did take advantage of the Visa discount for my Jan trip, but am hoping to save a little bit more when the AP rates are announced. I am thinking that maybe since the deluxe resorts were discounted 35% (except WL at 25%) the AP discount may add another 5% or so those discounts I have seen in the past where AP discounts can be 40-42% off, so that is what I am keeping my fingers crossed for!!! Only time will tell!

I'm going with my extended family so we have 4 rooms booked at the ASMovies. I'm hoping, desperately, to get a deal good enough to do either the AoA or Wilderness Lodge.

We will book a RO public offer deal if it comes out on October 10th. You can always change to an AP discount if those come out later. Crossing fingers for both of us!

We also have TIW, so free dining isn't so much of a draw. I do wonder whether there will be free dining offered at all.

Thank you! to everyone for your help and thoughts. As always, we're all in the together the Dis Boards, and it's great to get help and support when you need it. I'll check as much as possible of any AP release date news and will look forward to posting if I found out anything.

TIW worth it? To us, definetly. We (adult couple) enjoy TS dinners (almost) every night and throw in a few breakfasts or ..whatever, and it pays for itself pretty quick. There is a bunch of threads, if you do a search, about just that topic.

Here is our experience so far....

Bought on 9/15/12 for $75 (PH rate), it is good through 10/31/13, so 13 1/2 months!!!!

We were at Disney for 2 nts/3 days. 4 of us traveling, 2 adults and 2 children. We ate at:
Captains Grille breakfast
Cape May Cafe dinner
Via Napoli lunch
Beaches & Cream ice cream only

We have saved $61.24 so far with TiW. Our next meal or two we will break even on the $75 paid. After that all our meals will be at true 20% discount. We have 4 more trips booked through spring of 2013 so for us TiW was a no brainer.

If you spend $375 in eligible dining/drinks, you break even on the $75 AP holder price. After that, everything is savings.

We bought the TIW card last summer when we went with a large group. There were 11 of us (one infant) and so we were able to break even in like one and a half meals. :lol

This time there are only 5 of us but since we have already used it for the June trip and still have it, it's all savings for us. I think of it like it pays for the tips.

I would think with Disney prices if you like dining at the more expensive buffets and restaurants, it would be easy to get to the $375 number - especially if you are going more than once in a year (which I assume you would be if you bought an annual pass). If you have a small family or don't like eating at table service restaurants all that much, probably not worth it.
