Are general codes gone for good, only to be replaced by "free dining"? It seems that if I choose to go to Disney next year, I need to pay rack rate with MYW and free dining (if it's offered).

I'm getting the feeling that discounted rooms are gone for the rest of us (non-APers who don't do AAA).

This stinks. Thoughts?

Have I caught on or am I in left field?

It looks that way. Unless tourism starts going downhill again, Disney has no need to deeply discount their rooms. As for the free dining, there is no guarantee that this will be repeated either. I think the days of generous discounts are gone. This is one of the reasons we bought into the DVC this year!

I am going during free dining, but earlier in the year I did receive a "postcard code". So for at least this summer the postcard codes were still being utilized. For me, the free dining will create a greater savings than the room discount code I had received. We will have no choice bu to wait and see. If people don't go or go less often because discounts are not available than Disney may notice and respond to that.
