AP discount

I hope someone can help me with a question about the AP discount for passes. We are going to US/IOA in June as a family. My oldest son is graduating from college in Dec. and will probably be taking a second trip to US in Jan or Feb so we were going to get him an AP. We were then going to get the rest of us 4 day tickets at the gate with the AP discount. I called to see if this was OK and the gentleman I talked to said that if I buy him the AP and have him activate it at the park I can then call the Universal ticket/online order from Orlando and recieve an extra 15%off the online price (so basically instead of 139.99 they would cost about 119 +tax) He said we could pick them up at will call right away. Does this sound right to anyone else? I was under the impression that the AP discount only applied to tickets purchased at the gate but he seemed pretty sure that it applied to all pre-ordered passes as well. I hadn't heard this mentioned anywhere else and wanted to see if any of the experts here had heard of this . Thanks in advance. Martha

I don't think that is right. This is what it says on the website:

10% savings on 1-day and 15% savings on multi-day theme park tickets purchased at the front gate (up to 6 people)

That is what I thought but when I questioned him about it he insisted that I could do it and recieve the extra discount. Great if possible but I just don't believe that is true. Just trying to find the most economical way to get the tickets.

Some more people will be by and comment also.

Well, it wouldn't hurt to try. The worst that will happen is that you'll waste 5 minutes.

I have heard that you can get the discount by calling, but I don't believe that it is the online price that is discounted but the gate price.

Make sure you report back here if it works, as lots of people would be interested in that deal!

Hang on...

What kind of AP are you buying for $119.99? If you are a FL resident you can get the Power Pass for $159.99 (less 15% discount would be around $136.99...and I refuse to believe you can get a discount on the Power Pass) but if you aren't a FL resident, that's not even an option. The cheapest AP option for a non-resident is the Preferred AP which is $229.99 so I don't know where is figure of $119.99 is coming from.

Exactly...what kind of pass are you talking about?

I think the prices the OP was quoting were for the multi-day tickets they were going to buy with the AP.

Sorry if I wasn't clear but the Ap would be about 247 but it is the 4 day passes that would be discounted. He said that the passes would be 15% off the pre-order price if I got them over the phone after I activated the AP pass at the parks and gave them the pass number.

I'm not sure what kind of "passes" she's talking about. Hopefully we will get a clarification.

I was writing numbers and repeating them to the operator as we were talking and he said that the 4 day pass was 10 dollars off the gate price (149.99 decreased to 139.99) then if we did the extra AP discount we would get the extra 15% off the 139.99. Hope I didn't make that as clear as mud but he seemed very sure about being able to do it that way.

I don't know...that just doesn't seem right. Passholders get 15% off the gate price for multiple day tickets so I don't know why they are giving you an additional discount.

Thanks for the opinions everyone. I think we will try and see what happens. If it works great but if not ...oh well. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. If it works I will let everyone know.

i think that would be great if you got the additional discount online.

call back and do ask for the name of the TM you talk with.
maybe ask to speak to one of the supervisors on duty about the discounted tickets in advance.

who knows if they are running some type of special for your dates?

if the deal is you can only get the discount at the gate for the regular tickets based on the ap, don't let it upset your day.
just plan ahead to be sure.

don't forget to get the name of the TM and supervisor in case you have to discuss it with guest services.

i have only been able to buy the tickets at the gate with my ap.
many of the other posters to your question are puzzled also.
this is the first time i have heard of anyone able to buy the tickets online for that additional discount.

if it is true, very sweet.
if it isn't, well, you plan to do the park anyway and you still will get the 15% AP discount at the gate.
