Just got off the phone with Reservations to see if my AP rate was available for my upcoming trip in May. They advised yes & updated my ressie, but when he read it back to me, my ressie changed from a preferred to a premium site for a savings of about $80.00 for the stay. But I wanted my preferred site, so he had to change it back (which took some time), with no discount.

Somtimes, the things Disney does makes no sense. Used to be you got your AP discount always - period. You did not have to call back & keep checking to see if it is available for your particular ressie.

Also, does it make sense that they were going to give me a premium site, which is normally about $10.00 more than a preferred, for $10.00 less than a preferred or what appears to be a 20% discount. I just wish they would go back to the standard 10% discount during normal operating days, combined with the higher discount during slow periods.

Yep, it's a russian roulette on how they figure site prices and discount availability:mad:

Newbie question - what is an AP discount, I love discounts, would love to know how to ask for one

I swear the only time I get my AP discount is when the rates are low anyway. I'm going next week and I've called a couple times and nothing. In the year we have had them we have only gotten a discount 1 out of 6 trips.

Actually, this is the first time I have not gotten one. I have been calling about every 10 days since the end of the year. I have not given up yet, I just wish they were more consistant. I don't have anything against a premium site and I have tried them twice, but the 100 loop is my home away from home.

We are FL residents, annual passholders and Disney visa card holders. You would think with that many things going for us we would have no problem getting discounted rates. Years ago, seems like I could always get a FLR discount but now it is nearly impossible to get any of them. I thought about joining AAA but I would only be doing it for the Disney discount and if it is hit or miss through them and nothing was available, it would actually just make things more expensive!

We have that also. I sometimes think when I call they are lying to me. Everyone is getting a discount on room rates (or so it seems). FL Resident - no, AP holder - no, AAA member - no. I even tried frequent stayer as a joke. No go on that either. I keep trying. This trip we are paying almost $100 a night. You think they could toss us a bone for something.

Yes, it is almost like they are saying that 'we know you will pay whatever we want you to pay to stay here', instead of rewarding returning guests. Even the cruise lines give benefits or discounts or extra perks for returning guests.
