I will be going to Disney twice within a year. (May, 2019 and November, 2019) I will probably get an AP. Think it will be cheaper, especially with the memory maker included.

I am going to book my room for the May, 2019 trip soon. If AP room discounts come out, does the AP have to be activated? Or, do I just have to had purchased the AP?

Same with FP's. I just have to have purchased the AP, correct?

You actually don't even have to have purchased your AP to get AP room discounts. You can call and book with the discount and buy it sometime before your stay.
For FP yes, you have to have purchased the AP. It doesn't have to be activated.

Oh good! I was wanting to wait to purchase closer to the trip just in case the plans changed. Thanks!

The only negative to not having it purchased is you can't do any research online, for availability or pricing. You can often get a general idea of pricing by doing 10% less than the GP discount for the same date but it's only a close guess and it doesn't help with availability since the GP rate and the AP rate could have different rooms available.

I hate having to get all my info from them on the phone, I am visual and need to see the options. Seeing the options in black and white make it so much easier for me to choose. Not to mention, sometimes I'm able to work with shifting between 2, 3 sets of dates, and finding the one that gives the best room choices at the best prices. I find all that so difficult when you have to ask the CM for every single price option first. But maybe others don't check so many different resort/room/date options that I do when planning a trip. If you know when and what you want, calling is probably just as easy.

Thanks for the advice! For this trip, we know exactly the dates we can go. We aren't really flexible. And, we know we want to stay at POFQ (unless there was a really good deal at YC). As of now, I would say we would stay there even without a discount. But...that gives me something to think about. Might be worth being flexible to save some money at a different resort.

And, I assumed the AP discount was the same as the GP. I just thought AP discounts came out first. Another plus for getting one! Good to know.

One more question for you....

Our group will be getting 2 rooms. One for my family and one for my parents. We have always made separate reservations and linked them together. Can you book more than 1 room with an AP discount? If so, I assume I would book both rooms under my name?

The person with the AP can book up to three rooms with the discount. We booked a room with the AP discount for my sister last year. :) My sister's room was under her name. And in the MDE account it said that she had a passholder discount.
