Does anyone have the link to the AP discount history? I think it's on Allears.net, but I can't seem to find it. TIA! :worship:

That's the list I was thinking of. Now, I'm not sure there is one on Allears! Thanks!

Bump! Still deciding if the (possible) discount + DDE makes it worth getting an AP.

Thanks!

I was like you and trying to decide. I do think that it is worth it. Here is why I figured it would work for us. To start with we are going twice this year at least that is the plan and that alone will save us $250!:) (9 day hopper and then a 5 day hopper vs. AP)

The discount on a hotel is a big bonus. It is no 40% pin to stay where you like but still gives you a savings. I like you, try to post and research to get my answer and the research proved more useful. I remember last year for around the time we were looking at going there was a savings of about $90 dollars a night for AKL and WL. It seemed to be less for the other deluxes and even more less for the other hotels. I would like more freedom to choose where we stay but the larger discount will dictate that. LOL

To me the other big bonus is the DDE card. Sure it is $60 but will definatly save us some money over the long haul. We should break even at the midway point of our first trip and the rest is just savings. We have always gone during free dining. My DH was tired of all the TS and wanted a less structured vaca?? Not sure how that is going to go but at least we will have the DDE to save. I booked TS rest and this way we will still have a back up. (yes I will cancel if we decide not to go)

So look at your type of trips and do the math. I do think it might be the hidden way to save extra money. Lets hope!;)

I’m a little confused. You do realize that the DDE card is for (most) TS restaurants and CS restaurants at AK? If you don’t plan on having TS meals, the DDE card will not help you. We (family of 5, but #5 is 2), find the DDE card pays for itself by the second meal. Well worth it. Usually by the end of trip one (we do a 10 day trip every year), we’ve saved $300-$350.

As far as the AP discounts v. pin discounts go, it can vary. Take last year. With my AP discount I saved over 45% per night at BWI and received a $75 dining card. AP discounts will have limited availability at various resorts, but pins do too! Of course, this year’s AP discount is only 18.8% at GF or 17.4% at the Poly.

Thanks for the tip. Yes I do realize that. I think I meant to say he did not want a TS every night. We are also staying at a value the first trip so that also has 20% savings, no? I would also like to eat in DTD at Wolfgangs and I thought that was 20% as well. Also are not the restaurants in AK included in the DDE savings? I think that is what I read. So I figure with about 5 TS and several CS we will definatly have made out in savings.

That is awesome to hear about the AP discount on the hotel. I tried to research it and asked questions but this section of the boards seems to move slow. The best I could come up with was the savings that I mentioned. That sounds like a great deal at the BWI. I wonder how come the discounts are so low this year for the AP? We got the 40% pin this year and I figure that was a one time shot and ended up using it on the value.:confused3 I was so excited when we got it but our friends chose the value, so what they hey? Its the people not the place, right? So I will wait in anticipation when they release the dates for our trip next May.:)

Snykymom

Just remember AP rate is more about availability than price many times of the year. If you are not going to take advantage of the 1 day jump (for some times of the year is certain situations it is a little or much longer than this or gives discounts not available to the general public) AP holders get on the general public the advantages outside of that are somewhat limited. So the value of an AP for reservation discounts depends on the specific time of year you are going, how diligent you are in getting the “jump” and are in some cases whether you would be booking a “package deal”.

Sorry no easy answers

One DDE advantage is where accepted it discounts alcoholic drinks also I believe, if that is a significant part of your budget.

Thanks, bookwormde. Yes, alcohol will be part of our budget, and neither of the dining plans work for us. We're going in January - that's why I asked what the "Best Rate Program" is, because that's what was offered to AP holders last January. Anyone know?

I'd love to get the 1 day jump on the room I've already booked!

The DDE card in AK covers Tusker House Restaurant, Pizzafari, Flame Tree Barbeque, and Restaurantosaurus. Rain Forest Cafe and Yak and Yeti are not included with the DDE plan. What I really meant CS places are not included at MK, Epcot, other resorts, or DS, but are at AK. You are correct that the CS at the values are included too since they do not have TS; I had forgotten about them.

As far as Wolfgang Pucks go, you get a discount at the Cafe, but not express.

The good news is that where you don't get a DDE discount, you do get an AP discount at most places. Only 10% though.

As far as the discounts being lower this year, less availability. It's always a matter of how much Disney needs to fill. Besides, as far as this year goes, some weeks have a much better discount on certain time periods even within the same season. It's just the way the ball bounces.

For us, the AP is all about the cheapest admission price. Everything else is just gravy.
