Ok, I think I read somewhere that if you have the Dining Plan, you do not qualify for the AP room discount.

Is that right? Or is it ONLY IF THE DINING PLAN IS FREE?
(I think it is only if you have FREE dining because you cannot have 2 discounts at once.)

We are paying for the Dining Plan and waiting for AP rates for August 16.

Thank you!

Unfortunately with AP, you can't even pay for the dining. I know, it's a bummer. It's either AP and no dining, or a Package with dining and no AP discount.

Thanks. That seems so weird to me.

In order to get the dining plan you have to have a package. All packages have to include tickets. Since you have an AP you aren't getting tickets. To get free dining you need to pay rack rate for the room and every member of your party needs park tickets.

You'd do better to pay a discounted room rate, not buy tickets and use your Dining Experience card.

basically yeah what quinn said but to add on to it -
Dining plan is part of a package. Ap discounts are for room only reservations, not packages. So there isn't any way to mix them.

I actually called and asked this to CRO and they said that we could have the AP discount but in order to get the dining (our dates are after the free dining so we don't even qualify for it) we'd have to buy 1 day base tickets and those could be used towards the renewal of our AP next year.

The AP room discount is for Room only. If you add 1 day base tickets then you will have a package not Room only. I hate to say it but the CM either misunderstood your question or gave you bad information.

Sadly the DDP is only offered in packages (room and tickets). Like I said the AP room rates are valid for Room only. So yes you can get a package with the DDP and 1 day base tickets but the room cost will not be at the AP room rate. It will be at rack rate.

Hope this helps. :)

I agree with the above poster. You cannot get AP rates with a package (which you need to get the dining plan)... but if this rule has changed and anyone can confirm this.. I'd LOVE to know!

If you do the package with the 1 day base tickets (you do not have to buy tickets equal to the number of days), then you may use those tickets towards your next purchase of APs (or any other ticket upgrade). Be sure not to activate those tickets... separate them from your room card, or don't use your room card to get into the parks.

I bought one AP voucher to have in hand when we check in on 7/20 (even though I have NEVER been asked for proof of AP upon check in). If we could add 4 one-day base tickets to our room and purchase the dining plan, could we use the tickets towards the other 3 APs we will purchase at Disney?

Still trying to figure a way to pay for dining while using an AP room rate. Or I may just buy the DDE card next week.

These are the best kinds of decisions to have to make!!!

Why do you need an AP in hand when checking in? If you are getting dining you have a package and cannot get an AP rate
And, You cannot use more than 1 ticket per ticket upgrade. You said 4 tickets towards 3 APs. You could only use 3 of them.

If you want your tickets upgraded to APs, go check in.. get your 4 one day base tickets upon check in. Then take those 4 tickets to a park Guest Services whenever you get to a park and upgrade them to your APs. Be sure not to use them to enter the park!

If you already purchased your AP, then you can do it for the rest of the tickets.

You cannot get an AP room rate and pay for dining though. You must have a package for dining, and AP rates are room only rates.

You can.. get AAA rates with a package and paid dining,
or
You can get your APs and the DDE.

Oh... and FWIW, I have always been asked for my AP when checking in with AP rates. My luck I guess :)

Hope this helps..

I was wondering if I could purchase dining when I check in. I have an AP rate, but would love to purchase the dining plan as well. Well, actually we first have a group rate (Poly) and then an AP rate (CSR). I know there's really no way to purchase dining plan with either scenario currently. Our travel agent has said she's heard rumblings of allowing groups to purchase the dining plan, but nothing yet.

You just can not get the dining plan unless you are buying a package....plain and simple. If you have an AP, sure, you can get the dining plan, but you can not get a room discount. You'll have to pay for the package, get one day park passes rather than length of stay passes. But, there is no room discount allowed. I would much rather get an AP discount on a room and then pay for the DDE card. That will save you 20% on most table service meals. I can get the DDP when staying on DVC points.....and have the DDE card, so have run the numbers both ways. The DDP is about $40 more than the DDE given the way we eat, but it sure is convenient. And if I used just the DDE, I would have to eat lunch in the room vs a counter service meal in order to keep the costs approximately the same.

No, even if you're checking in with a package you cannot add dining at check-in, it must be added in advance. I thought it was up to 6 days out but my TA recently checked with Disney for me because we're going to add it for our July trp, and they told her it needs to be atleast 4 days in advance. HTH!

I have an AP and DDE card, but since we're not getting an AP rate on the room (none released for WL :sad1: ) I think the AAA rate with DDP will work out slightly better for us.
