AP blocked for entering both parks too quickly?

Whatt?! When was this? I feel like I've never seen or heard of this happening. Not shocked though. I understand Disneyland is very expensive, but I would never think to heckle people for their tickets :sad2:
The people doing this were pretty blatant, and it was happening a lot. People were buying 8-day passes (they were the same price as 7-day passes) then selling partial days on Craigslist, etc., and getting the passes back to resell the additional days. Of course, they sold at a lower price than Disney, so people were buying them. You'd also get the people that purchased these tickets, only to find that there were no days left on the passes, and so they lost out. Disney wouldn't honor them, especially since they were purchased by a third-party seller. Add to that people with those huge arrow signs pointing to some offsite location, directing people that got off the freeway to go buy tickets there instead of Disney. After some time of this happening, Disney went from 8 days to 5 days, no negotiations.

We have something similar in Disneyland Paris where the parks are also very close together. Three weeks ago, we were in The Studios only for a few minutes as we wanted to check something in a store. We couldn't find what we were looking for so we went back to Disneyland Park. And we had a problem coming back in. But there they don't have to call for a mnager, the gate CM checks the picture on the AP, pushes a few buttons on the computer to unlock it again and we got in.

Is that why they did away with more than 5 days???😳o..m..g...I never knew that! But I remembered our first trip paying for extra days...much much cheaper than our AP nowadays :sad2:

It was happening all the time. When kids would start to approach us, we'd quickly say "Annual passes." The "rent" for a 1 day park hopper was $50-75. So considerably cheaper than a 1 day. But many were getting ripped off too. They would buy them, then go to the gate and find out there were NO days left on the ticket. The number of times we watched families get told "Sorry" was heart breaking.

I was at Walt Disney Travel Company in DTD once when a lead brought a family this happened to into the store. They had paid $600 for 5 2-day tickets. But the tickets were showing fully used and the person who sold them the tickets was no long answering the phone. They had traveled from the East coast and now had no tickets. They were staying at Eden Roc, so it was a definite budget trip. Disney did sprinkle some magic on this family. But imagine if they had to do this for every family.

My boys, almost 2 years apart, look similar enough to share one pass if we were the cheating type. We get asked at least once a day if they are twins.

I bet more people than you think were doing this.

We've done this many times...we arrive and need the restroom. We go to DCA because the one in the front has 20+ stalls whereas the ones near the front in DL have maybe 5-10 stalls. Once that's taken care of, we decide which park we want to be in and have often popped over to DL instead. I guess we'll need to be more aware of this in the future. :worried:

There are large restrooms outside of both parks, you could totally use one of those and then enter the park.

I always forget about those. LOL But also, we can't book MaxPass until we've entered the park, so if I have to use the bathroom but my DH or DS don't have to, they can book FPs while I'm taking care of my business.

Or they want people to buy annual passes so they make more money off of them.

My DD's are the same way. They have the exact color hair and tightness of curls. People do double takes all the time. My nieces also look quite similar with long blond straight hair. Both sets of girls have to be standing next to each other to realize that their body shapes are different but just a face they would easily pass. I'm glad my 21 year old goes to college in a different state than my 19 does. Even if the bouncer carded her and looked closely they could pass for each other.

That's what everyone says. But having a photo associated with any ticket longer than 2 days should have solved it.

My guess is they also decided they benefited financially somehow by limiting it to 5 days. They probably had data showing people didn't spend enough on those out days.

I can say that limiting the tickets to 5 days shortened our on-site trips from 5 nights to 4. We don’t go often enough to justify an AP. I had no idea people were “renting” tickets out. It’s just terrible. ☹️

It was what they did to stop it. Photos didn't come along for another year or two. We kept hoping they would bring back the 8 day ticket after the pics. If you live out of the country, you can still get up to 10 days tickets.

My guess is that they discovered during that couple of years that they were profiting more in some way by not selling the longer tickets. Or they would have brought them back.

And that's great they sell longer tickets for those living out of the country. But that obviously only helps if you.... live out of the country. I don't.
