AP and Dining Plan ????

We are a family of 5. If I were to buy an AP for me so that I get AP room discount (if available), can I still buy normal park hopping tickets for the remainder of my family? They would be able to buy the dining plan, but would I. The dining plan would save us $$$ since our kids will all be teenagers when we go next time. The AP rate though would save us greatly since we need a deluxe that holds five or two rooms. Is this doable as I described? Thanks.

THe AP room discount and the dining plan can not be combined. It's one or the other. IF you get 2 rooms, you could, however, get an AP discount on one room for yourself. And buy the dining plan for the folks in the second room (room rate full price)--same tickets for all. Then you could share the dining plan with them. We did this in September. We had part of the family stay at Pop for the full price room, plus one day tickets for all. Others in the family stayed in a different resort with a discount. We shared some of the dining credits. We paid out of pocket for cheaper meals (Trail's End, breakfasts) and used the credits for the more expensive meals. There were more than enough credits and food to go around. Just a thought. Of course, you will need two different reservations.

Did I understand this correctly? I have the AP with discount on the room, the remaining members have park hopper passes and no one can get the dining plan? Or is it I can't but the other members can????

I think the biggest mis-conception with the Magic Your Way Dining plan is that it is a component of the tickets - IT IS NOT. You cannot purchase tickets and add the dining plan to the tickets.

The Magic Your Way with Dining Plan is tied to the Magic Your Way PACKAGE reservation, more importantly, it is tied to the number of nights that your reservation is for - 5 nights resort stay, 5 nights of dining credits. You also must be booking a package - not a room-only reservation - which a room with an AP discount is a room-only reservation.

As an AP holder, you can purchase the Disney Dining Experience card, which gives you 20% off most meals.

No one can get the dining plan in this scenario, as you would have made a room-only reservation with the AP and the dining plan can only be added to a package reservation.

Thanks for the info. I guess I need to sit down and do the math. If we can get an AP rate for a deluxe that will save us 100 per night then it may be a better deal for us.

That's the decision we came to. But we're not big foodies. I'm not even sure that the benefit of DDE 20% discount will outweigh its cost for us.
