OK (deep breath) I tell my DVC owning parents about all the new MYW tix plan and AP discounts for DVC members and they called MS this morning to move our reservation to July and ask a few questions. This is what they were told.

"You cannot get the AP ahead of time." I was under the impression that you can purchase them and have them activated when you get there.

MS said that the DDE is not $50 but $75. I'm assuming that they didn't know about the new AP $25 off deal since they are MS and not CRO.

So now, my parents are planning on buying their discounted APs when we get down there and THEN buy the DDE card. I feel like this can all be done ahead of time for them.

Also, I hear people mentioning a DVC discount on cash reservations. My parents don't know about this. I'm the planner but not the DVC member. Can they get a discount on a cash reservation at a value resort???

Where can I find links with answers to these questions? (It's getting a little frazzled here with the kids off school so I'm taking them to Mickey D's for lunch and I'll be back to check) Sorry if this is confusing. Thanks!

AP's are available in advance, there is supposed to be a place on the member site to order them.

DDE at $50 is available through the special #. According to what has been posted, you can buy it in advance of your trip if you have an AP voucher. You cannot buy it onsite at WDW.

DVC only offers cash discounts at the DVC resorts. The member must occupy the room.

That is incorrect info. You can purchase the DVC discounted AP/PAPs in advance. If you do, you get a voucher. You must excahnge the voucher on site to get the actual pass. At that time, your parents would be required to show their blue membership card as well as a picture ID. Yu can purchase the DVC discounted vouchers on the DVC Member website.

The $50 price is for AP/PAP passholders. You need to call the number mentioned in several of the DDE threads to get the disocunted rate. The $75 rate is the usual price (for Florida residents). MS doesn't sell the DDE.

You cannot order the DDE on site/in person. It takes several weeks to get one and you need to call to order it.

No DVC cash discounts for rooms at non-DVC resorts. The member cash discount (25%) is not alawys available. Many threads here asking about them - just do a search and you will find all the info you need.

Have fun with the kids!

Unfortunately, you are going to have to deal with a few more phone numbers here, as MS is limited in what they can do.

You can order an annual pass ahead of time. They mail you a voucher, which you exchange at a park gate for an AP. There is an Annual Pass phone number somewhere on the Disney website.

You cannot get a DDE with the AP discount without having an AP. Now, I don't know if Disney having issued you a voucher would count, but I do know that they validate you as an annual passholder in the computer before they will issue you the DDE card and give you the $25 off. There is yet another number somewhere on a thread on this board to sign up for the DDE. Be prepared to stay on hold for 20-30 minutes, though.

Good Luck!

I guess I am behind. What is the DDE???
(Never mind, just saw my answser on another thread)Thanks,

Pam

Others have reported being able to order the card without an activated AP or PAP. They said they told the DDE rep that they had a voucher and it wasn't a problem. Kind of sounds like they are treating it the same way they do room reservations for the AP discounts.

Anyway, Based on those reports, I'm betting that we will need to show an activated AP every time we use the the card.

to the OP:

Check out the long thread on this over on the Theme Park board. People there are calling and ordering over the phone and getting e-mail notification sent to them, which can be used in place of the card which takes so long to arrive. Same scenario for your parents with the AP over the phone. Maybe those who have already done it can help you out.

I called MS earlier this week and was sent to the website to order the DVC Discounted APs. MS will only have the ability to sell them after the 10th of this month. There is a link on the dvcmember.com page where I bought my DVC discounted AP's and am expecting a voucher in the mail.

I don't know if you have to have the voucher itself (to read off a number perhaps) or if the receipt will get you the DDE card because I cannot get through. lol I think they are SLAMMED with all AP people wanting to sign up.
If anyone finds out, please let me know.

Also, it takes several weeks to get the DDE card in the mail, but apparently the customer service reps there have been offering an email that will do if your trip falls before your card arrives.

I hope this helps some!

Oh yes, this is helping a lot. Thanks a ton.

No DVC cash discount on values. I'll be on the lookout for codes or an AP rate. We were thinking of getting value rooms for the night before we check into OKW.

Next time my parents visit me, we'll have to check out the members website. They don't have internet access. Hope they remember their password. I just knew they could get vouchers ahead of time!

Disney Dining Experience number: 407 566 5858 Cannot be ordered onsite. Boy, that would have been a bummer if we found that out on check-in day! I got a list printed of participating restaurants. Sounds like the thing to do would be to order DDE card in early July for our trip (check in July 24th) using AP vouchers for the $25 discount. If they don't have the card before our trip, they will email a letter to use. It will expire 7-31-06, right around the time their AP expires.

It's all starting to make sense now. I guess it takes me a while to get it. Thanks again!

You do not need to have the voucher, nor an AP to call the DDE and buy your membership. You may well have to show the AP when you go to use the DDE on property. All you have to tell them at DDE is your name/address/phone/email (as a will-be AP holder) and you can sign up.

If you will be leaving before you'd get your DDE cards, they will fax or email you a "letter" than (with your AP) you can use on property to get your discounts. I know this all to be true, as I have done the same thing over the past few days.

I got my DDE this morning (after 75 mins of hold time). Yay! But I tried to offer them my AP ticket number, but they wouldn't/ couldn't take it. The CM explained to me that Disney cross-references your name and home address and telephone # in their databaseand that's how they verify your AP holder status. I dunno if this is the case, but the CM had my phone number before I had finished giving it to him.

We are arriving at WDW on Aug 6, 2005 and will have new APs. I think ordering a DDE also makes sense for us. We will be going again in July of 2006, and clearly want the card to be valid during our 2nd trip.

When is the best time to order the card? I really dont want to carry around an email during our 12 day vacation this August... yet I want our card to last for both vacations.

/Jim

Probably July 1, 2005 would be the time to call. It should give them time to process the cards - if not, you'll have to use the email for August.

And, if the pattern follows through, your cards would expire the end of July 2006.

We were told the same thing Pumpkinboy. But I wondered how they would verfiy that when people with vouchers are getting the DDE card? I was also told that you only needed the AP to order the card and if your AP expired before the DDE card you could still use is after the AP expired. Guess we'll see.

It's been a few years since we had the DDE card but after using it for several years, I don't recall ever being asked for an ID or documentation when I used it other than the DDE card itself and my CC. They may cross reference it on that end but my guess is they don't and I wonder if anyone could call up and get it and use it with no problems, even without an AP.

I also sincerely doubt they will require one to have an AP just to use it. So if one's AP expires, I suspect they will care less and I sincerely doubt Disney would require renewal just to use what you paid for already.

Do I have to order the DVC discounted AP through the member website?

And would the DDE card be worth it for a solo traveler? I'd have to order $250 worth of food to even break even...and there are so many discounts for AP/DVC holders anyway...

It really depends on the dining habits of the individual as to whether it is worth it for a solo traveler. The AP and DVC discounts may work fine for you as is. Most AP/DVC discounts are good only for lunch. The DDE is good for all 3 meals, and is good for alcoholic beverages, including beer, wine and mixed drinks. Also, if that solo traveler will be there for an extended visit the DDE could easily work in their favor.

I've decided to try and get one...I read through one of the threads on the theme parks board and realized about the alcohol & dinners. It'll be nice to be able to choose dinner as the big meal more frequently by way of the discount.

Given its 6:15pm on Friday I guess I'll have to wait until Monday.
