What is this having to buy 2 days MYW ticket to get free dining when it is offered when you have a annual pass? By doing this your paying for a day and a half or more of dining? this does not seem like a Disney friendly way to keep one buying Annual passes. any comments on this?:confused3

It's because "free" dining isn't truly free -- it's free with the purchase of a package including rack-rate hotel rooms and park admissions. AP holders are eligible for other discounts, including discounts on hotel rooms -- not to mention the fact that, used right, the AP means you will spend less per day on park admissions.

Screw free dining and buy a Tables in Wonderland card. It is a very freeing experience.

Free dining is never free, but my 20% discount is always a 20% discount (in addition to AP discounted room rates). :)

If you are an AP holder and choose to do the free dining, yes you have to buy the 2 day ticket but that can be applied to your renewal if not used. If you choose the free dining then you can not use an AP room discount with that offer so do the math and figure out which is cheaper. Use room discount and pay for dining or buy 2 day ticket and get free dining. For us it was cheaper to go ahead and buy the 2 day ticket and get free dining.

Yup, AP rates on the rooms + the 20% savings on dining (including alcohol) works out to a better rate for most people I know.

And appetizers and anything else you want without being tied to the ever changing DDP rules. Freddom is a good thing.

I agree with most here. I feel like "free dining" is basically a scam. Nine times out of 10 you will do better with almost any kind of room discount than you will with FD, since you have to pay rack rates to get the FD, if I'm not mistaken.

But that goes double if you are an AP holder. An AP room discount coupled with Tables in Wonderland blows FD out of the water any day -- even if you didn't have to buy the 2-day MYW. Just keep in mind that TIW only helps you if you do table service meals regularly.

It's not really a scam. It's just a discount. 20% is a discount too. And like in most things, you can't stack discounts.

You can choose to pay full price for the package (and any requirements of that package) and get free dining, or get a discounted room and pay for DDP or out of pocket. Your choice, all flexible to what works best for you.

As I understand it...if you typically stay Value, then FD is likely the better deal, especially if you've got 4 to the room. But a good discount on a deluxe room can save you more than the cost of DDP in some cases.

Hi all!

I am planning a visit to WDW in December with a friend and we want to take advantage of free dining. I realize it may not be the best deal, but I love the convenience of it. As an AP holder, I do not need tickets.

If we book a package with free dining and get two 2-day MYW tickets, can she use mine and hers? We will be there for 4 days, and I will use my AP. As long as I don't attach my fingerprint to "my" MYW ticket, would she have any trouble using it?

Thanks for your input!

She can use your ticket, but they will initially come on your individual KTTW keys, along with your dining credits. You should ask to get your ticket credentials transferred off your KTTW card on to separate media (the resort concierge can do this - do not do it at a park as your dining credits can get messed up), and she can use the combination of her KTTW card and the separate ticket for the 4 days.

Keep in mind though that to upgrade a 2-day to a 4-day will be $70+tax (tomorrow's price increase), so you'd be using a ticket with a $162 value to pay for a $70 ticket.
