I currently have an eight night reservation at AOA in January. I am hoping to get either free dining or at least discounted dining during our stay. I know that AOA Little Mermaid rooms have never been offer in the dining plan promotions. Should I change my room reservation to POP to secure a room now or wait until the specials are released for January 2014 before making any changes? I am worried that POP will sell out.

_I_ do not look for LM rooms to be offered in FD anytime soon, so if FD is important to you, _I_ would switch to Pop.

But if you are only going to book Pop if they offer FD, it doesn't make sense to change your reservation now. Even if you have a RO or package ressie now, that does not guarantee you will get one when the discounts are released. You cannot just convert an existing ressie to FD, you have to cancel the one you have and rebook if a room is available under the promotion.

We just converted an existing ressie to FD with no problems. It didn't have to be cancelled. It wasn't room only it was a package.

But what I am saying is, just because you have a non-discounted package at Pop, that does not mean you are guaranteed a room under the FD promo when released because they only allocate a certain number of rooms for each promo. The OP said she was concerned Pop would sell out, but making a ressie there now does not help her unless she wants to stay there promo or not. Does that make sense?

Exactly, so IF there are no discounts for either and you would rather stay at AoA, keep that reservation until any deals are released. Already having a reservation at POP doesn't increase your chances of getting a discount there. Hounding DIS/Disney Blogs and calling first thing the morning that discounts are released with a huge supply of patience is what will secure your discount. And all things being equal, I like AoA better.
