I have heard the mermaid rooms are the farthest away from food court and transportation. My niece loves the Mermaid and really wants to stay there when we go!

We didn't mind the walk, but that being said for that visit it was just two adults, no little ones or strollers. We also got up and dressed/packed up for the day, and ate breakfast in the room (we drive and I bring a coffee maker and we buy doughnuts or pastry and fruit), and when we left for the day to walk over and get the bus, that was it. No back and forth!

The walk is pretty, the theming at this resort is fantastic!

Disneys smart marketing to fill rooms that are furthest away from best areas. That being said, we were actually UPgraded to a princess room at Port Orleans. I LOVED it though I'd not choose to pay more OR be further away.
Whichever room selection have a MAGICAL TRIP!

It was a fair hike to the food and transportation, but it would probably be worth it if your kids are into the theming. If you were planning to make multiple short trips, like frequently refilling the mugs, etc., it might be more of a pain.

The whole resort is very cool.

Yes, it's a walk, which is great if someone is looking for more opportunities to exercise. The walk bothered me only after getting back from long days at the park, but if you can manage to leave the park before you're exhausted and save a little energy to walk back, that would be better. If that's where I wanted to stay again, I wouldn't skip it just because of the walking.

Yes, it is a bit of a hike to the LM rooms. It bothers some a lot more than others. It depends upon how tired you are after a day of walking in the parks and how much convenience you desire in a resort hotel.

How about a split stay? You could stay elsewhere for most of the trip, then move to AOA to finish with a few days in the cute LM rooms.

Good luck choosing!

That's what we ended up doing. I cut back our AoA time to only the last two days of the trip. This way the kiddos get to enjoy the amazing theming for a little while and are treated to "their own" resort after we check out of Poly.

You will all love the Poly! It is incredibly well themed and so convenient! Going from the Poly, with its huge comfortable rooms and great transportation to the LM rooms at the AOA may be a bit disappointing. You might need to be prepared for the much smaller rooms and decreased amenities at AOA (or go to AOA first and then move to the Poly). I would take time to look at both resorts online so you know what to expect.

Either way, enjoy your vacation!

Yes, we now it's going to be a bit shocking, but my husband and I are going in with the mindset that it's for the kids and our expectations for that part of our stay are really low lol. We It's only for the last two nights as well and fits our park plans perfectly. But you're right, it's going to be tough to leave the luxury of Poly...but my pocketbook is thanking me :)

Yep, they're farther away, and although you can't tell it from looking at them, two of the Mermaid buildings and the common building are a lot older than the rest of the resort at Art of Animation. Two of the Mermaid buildings and the common building were built at the same time as Pop Century, as that side was supposed to cover the decades of the 00's through the 40's. The rest of the project was abandoned after 9/11, until Art of Animation came to be and they finished it. The bridge was supposed to be called The Generation Gap.

You can easily tell the Mermaid buildings from the others on satellite view of the roofs. The roofs of the Mermaid buildings look like Pop's...totally different from the other AoA buildings.

9/11 was a major reason for the 00's to 40's not being build... the other was once they were ready to do something Disney realized that in that period there were two world wars and a depression amusing other things and to theme hotels to that wouldn't be magical

We're staying in the Little Mermaid rooms right now, and have a top floor, corner room, in the furthest building. By the way, that was our request :-) Yes, it is a bit of a walk, but what is great, is that the walk to the food court and buses is just the same as if we were going to AOA as if we were going to Pop, so we do either, depending on our mood. If we're leaving a park in the middle of the day and a Pop bus comes first, we get on that. I actually find it to be really convenient, and this is with 2 under 9s, and no buggy :-)

If there is any way you can rearrange your park plans to start at AoA and later move to Poly instead of the other way around, you'd probably all have a better time.

Nope, this is the way we actually planned it. We have arrival day and then the next 3 days planned mainly at MK so the convenience of the monorail is a huge benefit. We'll be able to break from the park and enjoy the resort midday much easier than if at AoA. We realize staying at AoA is going to be a big change from Poly, but at the end of the day we're at Disney with the kids in a hotel that is themed just for them. We're going to have a great time :)
