AoA and given suite upgrade today..how do they choose who gets them?

Huh?

That does not satisfy stockholders if you constantly give away resort rooms that command a much higher price randomly all the time to those who did not pay for them.

Oh, I don't know. it does if those rooms were going to go unused anyway because they weren't booked. That kind of upgrade leaves other people hoping they'll get one too and it's just one more reason people might choose to stay on-site

It also leads to unrealistic expectations. We are constantly seeing people posting saying they were very
disappointed not to get an upgrade when they had booked a value resort. They felt that almost everyone was able to get one based on what they see posted here, on the DIS.
Not to mention how annoying it would be to be a person that paid regular rates for a deluxe or DVC accommodation only to find that people from Pop or other value resorts had been moved there, for the same value resort rate! Yes, it happens. But it doesn't happen nearly as often as some think. It seldom happens from a value to a deluxe or DVC resort. Unless there is an overbooking or maintainence issue. Otherwise, most upgrades, when they do happen, occur within the same resort. Possibly to a better view or different area.

Or they will feel entitled every time to get an upgrade. Even during a busy time. No matter what, unrealistic expectations have been set and Disney has set themselves up for failure.

Ultimately, do not expect anything other than what you booked and you will always be pleased - that is the way to satisfy guests and stockholders alike.

Think outside the box for a second. A family of four shows up and they are booked at a standard room at BC; you randomly upgrade them to a one bedroom villa. Now, it takes more work to maintain that room (a/c, heat, water because they have a kitchen and laundry), more cleaning staff, for a villa that most likely that person will never be able to afford to book on their own. That is not good business.

Huh? I've worked at 4 Disney resorts and this is absolutely incorrect :confused3 It's 100% due to operational need, and usually couples or short stays (1-2 nights) were the ones who were bumped up. The highest cost rooms are regularly left unoccupied. We never upgraded for a magical moment- sorry if that ruins the magic! :wizard:

We have been upgraded twice and both times we had 2 rooms booked for 21 nights!
1st was from standard room at AKL to Arusha savannah ( for both rooms)
2nd was the same again. So it does happen for longer stays too! :)
