I want to plan a bday trip for my daughter and it just seems that the prices seem high for this weekend is there something going on? I know the weekend before is the Star Wars run. Her bday is the 22nd so I really wanted to go this weekend but I can save quite a bit $ going a diff weekend. So I was curious what was going on to drive up the prices. Anyone know?

That's usually the weekend of the NAMM convention. It's huge and takes up almost all of the available rooms near the convention center, and then spills over into other hotels. On the plus side, not many of the convention-goers go to the parks, but they do impact restaurants and traffic and, as you noticed, hotel prices!

I know all of this very well because my birthday always falls in the NAMM convention time frame too. I have still gotten good hotel rates, but you have to book them before December, at least. After that, they go sky-high and the best places are completely booked.

ETA: A few years ago I got a super rate at PPH for that weekend in Jan., through Orbitz in November. In December, my room had tripled in price!

ETA again: Just checked, and it is the NAMM, Jan 22-25. It's a huge music convention.
