About a month ago I posted my mom was in the hospital and diagnosed with congestive heart failure. For the past month she has had 3-4 chest xrays, a echocardiogram and other scans. Doctors at the hospital have asked her when she sees her oncologist next.
My mom felt her cardiologist was not telling her everything about her heart. Today her oncologist levelled with her and said the x-rays/scans she's been having the past month shows the breast cancer from 8 years ago has metatisfied (sp?) into the bones. Bone cancer leading to interal organ failure will kill her in 2-3 years.
However, her heart will likely get her first. She has a good chance of dying from a heart attack or stroke in 6 months... maybe a year.
SO... my mom has been wanting to take a cruise with (my dad obviously) her parents & one of her brothers & his wife in October/November. At this point, I think she should go for it. While I understand insurance companies are not going to want to cover anything arising to her heart (bone cancer has really only just started and not going to cause issues/complications for a year or so I guess) - I do feel that she should still try and get out-of-country medical coverage for any silly stupid accidents that may occur. Like if she slips, falls and breaks an arm or leg. That kind of thing.
I'm pretty sure I have read about insurance companies that will cover people, excluding the pre-existing conditions. Are there? Where should she/I start looking?
