About a month ago I posted my mom was in the hospital and diagnosed with congestive heart failure. For the past month she has had 3-4 chest xrays, a echocardiogram and other scans. Doctors at the hospital have asked her when she sees her oncologist next.

My mom felt her cardiologist was not telling her everything about her heart. Today her oncologist levelled with her and said the x-rays/scans she's been having the past month shows the breast cancer from 8 years ago has metatisfied (sp?) into the bones. Bone cancer leading to interal organ failure will kill her in 2-3 years.

However, her heart will likely get her first. She has a good chance of dying from a heart attack or stroke in 6 months... maybe a year.

SO... my mom has been wanting to take a cruise with (my dad obviously) her parents & one of her brothers & his wife in October/November. At this point, I think she should go for it. While I understand insurance companies are not going to want to cover anything arising to her heart (bone cancer has really only just started and not going to cause issues/complications for a year or so I guess) - I do feel that she should still try and get out-of-country medical coverage for any silly stupid accidents that may occur. Like if she slips, falls and breaks an arm or leg. That kind of thing.

I'm pretty sure I have read about insurance companies that will cover people, excluding the pre-existing conditions. Are there? Where should she/I start looking?

First off, I send my condolences to you and your family. What a terrible blow to be dealt.
Now to answer your question just go into any place that sells trp insurance like CAA. Or just add the medical insurance from the travel company that you buy the cruise through.
The policy will clearly state that any pre-existing conditions will not be covered but she will have no problem covering any accidental injuries or illnesses. The only thing I might be a little concerned about would be if something happens while she is away. There will be HUGE medical bills.
But, I think I would take the risk if I was her and enjoy every last minute of the trip.

Just sending positive thoughts your way...and some cyber hugs too:goodvibes:goodvibes

And an itinerary suggestion...the 7 night cruises to Bermuda are lovely, a quick direct flight to NYC or Boston, 3 nights cruising, then the ship is docks in Bermuda for 3 nights with lots of time to explore the island, or just stay onboard if she isn't feeling up to lots of touring.

One night sail back, and they're home.

Just a thought, and a little less stressful in terms of medical care in different ports if needed.

HTH!
:)

My heart goes out to you and your family. I wish you all the best.

I recommend going to www.coverme.com . It is insurance by Manualife Financial. I believe this is the same insurance CAA offers but have always found it cheaper to purchase it straight from them.

I work in a pharmacy and this is one of the drug plans we deal with provincially; that is why I trust them and use them myself.

I also did a search and Ontario Blue Cross has travel insurance too. We also deal with this drug plan too in my pharmacy. I didn't look to see which province you are from but I think Blue Cross operates in many provinces.

Again, I wish you all the best.

Sorry for all going through.....

I suggest you contact BMO travel insurance. I have a son with a Life-threatening and fatal illness. I can get coverage for him. Infact they will cover his pre-existing illness providing he has been stable for 3 months and no change in meds !!!! Inaddition, you have no upfront cost should you require hospital care . BMO pays , leaves you with no worries...
