I have an interview at Lowes this week...anyone here work at Lowes? How is the pay? I heard from someone that Lowes pays better than most retail. I currently work retail...customer service at Babies R Us but looking to make more money. Lowes is closer to home too. Are they a good company to work for?

I am pretty sure Froggy does. I will pm him your link.

yes i work for lowes. one year aniversery is march 15. pays great better than most. howevere even full timers are mostly limited to 39 hoursa week. there are lots of other oportunities for extra pay though. special order, installed sales, some items pay commision, others dont. benifiits are awesome. very awesome. stocks, 401 k both great. lots of opportunity to advance. they reallt do prefer to advancefrom within. our store manager started with them 15 yeras ago in our store as a loader, and worked his way up. hes been all over, recently came home and took over our store. i start management training next month, so yeah, give thema chance. at least in our district its not bad at all.

Dh works part time for lowes. The pay for part time is okay. better than most part time jobs around. They've tried to convince him to go full time but they can not match what he is getting paid working at his primary job even though he would love to go full time there.

thanks guys...I am applying for customer service...that is what I currently do at Babies R Us. I was talking to a mom at my DD's basketball today and she said she worked at Lowes so I thought I'd apply. It is about 1 mile from home and I had heard before they pay well. No real problems at my current job...I am just looking to make a little more money. I wonder what they offer for customer service??? I am looking for part time so the 39 hour cap is fine with me. I need to work around my DH's and kid's schedules.

I put the application in online today and not 20 minutes passes and they call me for an interview! I couldn't believe it was so quick.

I worked at Lowe's for just over a year and really enjoyed it. The only reason I left was due to problems with certain supervisors and my DH's work schedule.

Pay was much better than any other retail job I have had and the medical benefits are great too. One of the only places I know that offer the benefits to PT as well. If you get it, be sure to look into the vision plan if nothing else.

I don't work for Lowe's, so I can't comment on the pay. But I go there all the time (they call me if I don't show up because they're worried :) ). The employees always seem happy. I have never had a rude experience there, and I think that says a lot.

:surfweb: my dh was a manager for Lowe's and the insurance was awful to deal with, they let go good people for no reason only to save money so the store manager would get a bigger bonus check-not very nice way to do business, my dh saw this happen over and over again in the 5 years he was with them, the workers had no idea it was coming.......just a thought. good luck-i will never shop there again.....

One of my best friends is actually a department mgr for the same lowes Dh works at, I've NEVER heard of anything like this happening, if anything ours likes to premote from the inside. Sounds like your mrg was just a :rolleyes1

Just like any store, how good it is to work there all depends on the store manager. At my store, he was awesome, did a lot of things for us and made sure we were happy. The store that opened after us, the manager seemed to only care about himself and the store was very unhappy.

I worked for Lowe's in part time Customer Service for just over 6 months, before leaving to do Customer Service at Best Buy. As PP have said, it all depends on your store manager. Mine didn't care much about his employees. Our Customer Service department head was fired 2 months after I started and when I left we still didn't have a replacement. It was good money, but Best Buy definitely pays better. If you have one around you, it is a great place to work :goodvibes :thumbsup2

My Dh works at Lowes. He is 5000 times happier than he was at previous job. The insurance is good. He knows his schedule 2.5 wks in advance, has gotten 3 raises in 1.5 years but he also started as seasonal and than went on remodel team and now works as display resetter and various other tasks. He has been encourged to futher his career into management but has declined for various reasons.

Oh yes, the schedule. At my store we knew our schedule aprox. 3 weeks out and had to request any time off at least a month in advance.

I have recently applied at Lowes and took the tests, did my 3 interviews and :goodvibes am very excited to hear back from them again. I was told they really would like me to work there. Right now they are doing reviews and redoing the store. There has been quite the delay. I stay in contact with the store manager who remains optimistic, but I really would love to know how long it took others to recieve thier confirmation that they were hired.

Bumping this thread to see more recent comments about Lowe’s employment. Especially interested in health insurance comments. I’d be working part-time. Thanks!
