Anyone work for a city or town Parks & Rec Dept?

I just started in my towns and will be asked to come up with new ideas and refine old ones. In the indusrty I left it was stupid to try to reinvent the wheel just use someone elses and modify it to your needs so Im looking for contacts anywhere and everywhere. Please drop me a note as I will be looking for advice!

Some people have said I must be crazy! I left and indrusty I worked in ofr 18 yrs to do something completely different. But Im going for it!

I work for our local arts council, and we work with our parks and rec. depts. on Pops in the Park symphony concerts. They are very popular and draw many people who don't necessarily participate in other parks and rec. programs. We're successful in getting most of the cost (symphonies are expensive) underwritten by local businesses.

Here's a link to Concord NH's Rec Department page. Very comprehensive program. DD is working there as a lifeguard this summer (we have 7 municipal pools). DH and I both used to work for the City, though not in the Rec Dept.

I was an assistant director for the Townships Preschool camp for two years... now I have moved, but it was a wonderful experience.

The township hired not college/high school students, but mostly teachers out for the summer. It gave the township credibility, and parents peace of mind.

As for activities... or programs, what are you thinking? PM me in the next few days.. (I have an exam tomorrow!)
