Anyone work at Kohls?

Just wondering how it is to work at Kohls? Do you have to do a set amount of hours per week? I'm retired and would only be interested in doing 2-3 days a week and would prefer hours within the school day range (I babysit the grandkids). Would they work with you on that? Do you have to be on the register or would you be able to work in a department? Thanks.

I used to work at Kohls and we had people that did mothers hours all of the time. Some were on register and others were department people. I guess it's just what that store is looking for at the time of hiring.

A friend of mine got a job at night at Kohl's restocking and such, she said it was great for the discount she got on the kid's clothes (she has 4).

My sister and a good friend of mine both work for Kohl's and they both love it.

My sister is a manager now, she started at the bottom and worked her way up. My friend works during the week while her kids are at school and Kohl's works with her on her hours.

The discount is nice too as you get an extra 15% off of everything, and they have some great clearance deals!!

Does she work in the summers, or are her kids old enough to stay home by themselves?

I used to almost 9 yrs ago. When I worked for them it was part time and if they didn't have to money for you to work, they would cut your hours. So one week I would have hours the next I didn't it was crazy. I liked it though and the discount was nice too.

Hi Cathy, I've worked part-time at Kohl's for the last 2 years. They're very nice to work for. I work in Kids and on the registers. I also work full-time, and I asked Kohl's to take me off the schedule for awhile this summer, and they did with no problem (still got to keep my discount). They're very flexible with hours, I work a couple evenings and every other weekend. They're probably hiring now for the Holidays, I know we are. My youngest DD is thinking about applying for seasonal, which is anytime from August through January. :thumbsup2

I worked there for a little while on the register. The pay was really low, which I suppose is the typical norm for any retail type job, but what really bothered me was that we had to really "sell" the Kohl's card. We were rewarded with money for each person we could get to sign up (I think it was a few dollars per application, can't remember exactly how much).
The manager would hang around sometimes, just to make sure we were giving our whole schpiel.. even if they said no, we had to keep on going about the 'saving 10 percent' blah blah.
I really didn't find it to be a great place to work, sorry.

edited to add: other departments might be better. I only have experience with the register.

Has anybody worked the overnight stock team? Were there any women that did this? This would fit best with the kid's schedules and then no day care............I have worked night shift before but it was as a switchboard operator and it was boring and by 5:00am my head was bobbing from being so tired, I would guess that at Kohls you would be moving around quite a bit, so that wouldn't be such an issue.

It is so hard to find a part time job right now. Retail pays so little and gas is so high. I live in a small town with very little opportunity. Kohls is about nine miles away..........I wonder how much they pay for overnights?

The employee that I was talking to in the store said that she made a little above minimum wage. Would you have to work weekends/nights? I'm more interested in days. Thanks!

I worked stock and signage. The nite goes pretty fast. You start at 10:00. You get a 15 minute break at midnight. A 1/2 hour break at 2:00 a..m. because your palm pilot shuts down, and another break at 3:30 a.m. You are suppose to be done by 6:00 a.m. But if you don't get all your signs changed, they ask you to stay. I only had to stay a couple of times. Just once I sat down and could barely get back up, because I was so tired. I asked to be on only weekends and maybe once during the week, since I have a full time job too.

I think it was December and I got put on almost a 48 hour week. I think they were changing the signs daily. That is when I said, one week nite and one weekend. I was only suppose to be seasonal and they asked me to stay on after Christmas-I told them "no thank you". Kohl's is nuts with changing their prices.

I did like the 15% off extra. Plus you could put things on hold when you knew a really big sale or markdown was coming up. I could see it on my palm pilot.

I worked at Kohl's last starting last holiday season--worked beginning of November ended staying through April. I had asked to work in the home dept. In our store the Home & Kids Dept. staff are combined so you could be scheduled to work in either dept. or cover both at times. I ended up being in the Kids Dept. most of the time--not what I wanted. If you work in a dept. you can be called to cover registers at any time. I hated that--I am not comfortable working with those transactions. Sometimes I would be at the registers for up to 2 hours and then have to go back and finish work in my dept. and end up staying late to close.

At first they were good about scheduling me the hours I requested--but the last few months I was there it seemed they tried to schedule me for times I needed off.

You are required to try to "sell" the Kohls charge any chance you get--I didn't like that either. People have too much credit card debt.

Pay was $7.25 an hour with 15% off clothing and softlines and 10% off hardlines.

My personal opinion....not worth the time away from my family for the compensation I received.

Maybe stocking would be better since you would never have to work the registers????

Most retails places require you to work on weekends especially part timers. When I worked at Kohls during the holidays this was especially true. No way were they giving you Saturday & Sunday off. This may have been because it was the holiday season though.

I think my salary was $8.35/hr.

I agree with the previous poster. I hated having to push the Kohls card.

I worked at Kohl's for 5 years, some of it as a dept supervisor, some as cash office. I LOVED it there. I was part time the whole time and it was a great place to work. The pay was really good compared to other local retail places. They offer insurance to part timers too, if you want it, as well as vacation hours.
